T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 13 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 15 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Store Development - Store Design, the Project Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning, tracking, and financial control of engineering and construction projects.
This role will maintain project schedules, monitor budgets, process purchase orders, and prepare status reports to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. This position also works closely with project managers, Finance and Accounting, Procurement, and external consultants to maintain accurate project information and support effective decision-making.
You Will
Project Tracking and Reporting (60%)
- Maintain project schedules, milestone trackers, and status reports for multiple engineering and construction projects.
- Update project dashboards to provide visibility into progress, risks, and upcoming deadlines.
- Track project documentation, including contracts, change orders, permits, and approvals.
- Follow up with project managers, consultants, and contractors to collect and update project information.
- Identify schedule variances and communicate issues to management.
- Ensure all project files and records are organized and maintained according to company standards.
Financial Tracking and Cost Control (30%)
- Track purchase orders, invoices, and project expenditures.
- Monitor project budgets and compare actual costs against approved budgets.
- Assist with capital spending reconciliation and monthly forecasting.
- Support year-end accruals and provide project cost information to Finance and Accounting.
- Analyze cost data and identify trends or opportunities for cost savings.
- Coordinate with vendors and consultants to ensure timely invoice processing.
Cross-Functional Coordination and Process Improvement (10%)
- Coordinate with internal department, such as Engineering, Finance and Accounting, Procurement, and external consultants to gather and validate project information.
- Ensure project updates and financial documentation are submitted accurately and on time.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project controls, reporting, and documentation processes.
You Should Have / Be
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in project coordination, project controls, cost tracking, or a related role, preferably in engineering, construction, retail development, or industrial projects.
- CAPM certification or progress toward project management designation is an asset.
- Basic understanding of project management principles, scheduling, and cost control practices.
- Proficient in CAD and other engineering/design software.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Project, and MS PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
