Job Description:
Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of carpenters who construct,
renovate and maintain structures of wood and other building materials and build and
install interior finishing in residential, commercial and industrial buildings; and of
cabinetmakers who construct and repair custom wooden cabinets, furniture, fixtures
and related products.
Prioritize work schedules, ensure quality control and pace of work to meet
preparation deadlines and standards
Train or arrange for the training of workers in job duties, safety procedures and
company policies
Assist in managing the preparation and execution of construction projects, planning
labor, equipment and material delivery requirements to ensure timely completion of
projects
Responsible for crew safety; promoting a safe work environment and conforming to
safety policies and work procedures.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with all levels – co-workers, supervisors,
clients and public while providing leadership/ supervision and work direction to the
crew
Organize and track crew time/ activity
Complete timely reporting of accidents, near miss, first aid, and incidents
Identifies materials and tool requirements to be on-hand as needed
Ensure working tools are used properly and returned, defective equipment tagged
and turned in
Complete work orders and track field quantities
Inform manager of any scheduling conflicts and resolves work problems
Complete all required paperwork such as toolbox talks, job sheets, traffic plans, etc.
Review all jobs assigned to ensure no issues and plan effective use of all materials
Job Requirements:
High-School Diploma a minimum, preferably vocational training and/or trade certificates.
Minimum 5 years of versatile experience in carpentry across broad range of construction
and renovation activities.
Demonstrated experience in work organization and supervision of at least 10 people,
knowing when and how to communicate changes or concerns regarding the job site,
safety requirements, and staff requirements, etc.
Progressive experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, overseeing carpenters and
labourers on active construction sites.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor workers, including apprentices and less
experienced carpenters, provide hands-on training, assess skill levels, delegate tasks
appropriately.
Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and construction best
practices, with responsibility for ensuring that all work performed under their supervision
complies with these requirements.
Demonstrated substantial experience in working with construction documentation
and drawings: ability to accurately read, interpret, and apply architectural,
structural, and shop drawings, specifications, and related project documents to
guide on-site work.
Effective communication and leadership skills, to enable coordination with project
managers, contractors, and other trades, while maintaining a productive and respectful
work environment.
Ability to train and integrate new employees efficiently, minimizing downtime and
supporting workforce development.
Punctual, reliable and accountable for tools/materials being used on site.
Good knowledge of various trades (electrical, plumbing, etc.)
Physically fit (can lift 50+ lbs) and work in all types of weather and terrain.
Able to work a flexible schedule to meet project and client requirements, with hours that
may vary based on seasonal demands and construction activity.
Able to travel across the GTA for projects.
Valid Ontario Driver’s License, clean driving record.
Must be able to provide references for work performed and equipment used upon
request.
Pay: $41.00-$45.00 per hour
