Skills and Qualifications
- At least 5 years civil construction experience
- At least 3 years experience in a civil construction supervisory role
- Strong ability to read and interpret drawings
- Valid First Aid certification
- A firm understanding of underground utilities (ground disturbance training an asset)
- Extensive knowledge in a variety of civil applications, construction materials and supplies
- Ability to oversee and lead a crew of workers in varying job positions as well as sub-trade workers
- Must be willing to work overtime in order to see the completion of a job
- Valid driver's license with clean driver's abstract
- Valid confined space certification (not a requirement)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in scheduling, ordering, quality control and job safety
Roles and Responsibilities
- Strictly adhere to Drake's OHS program and other governing safe work regulations; and ensure that all workers under your supervision do so as well
- Lead by example
- Oversee and have extensive knowledge in the installation of civil utilities such as: storm, water, hydro, and sanitary
- Ensure that the proper procedures and paperwork are completed in the event of a incident
- Familiarity with grades and the ability to work with pipe lasers and pipe shooting
- Keep organized hours, packing slips and trucking slips and turn them over to office personnel in a timely manner
- Work closely with the Project Manager and notify them when any issue may arise such as unexpected changes or extra work
- Inspect the site throughout the day
- Give advice and direction to Pipelayers and Labourers as needed
- Perform daily FLHA prior to start of the shift and a weekly toolbox talk
- Communicate with Dispatch to set up tools and equipment needed to complete the job the day prior
- Ensure that all excavations and trenches are properly braced as per WorksafeBC regulations
- Check at the end of each shift that the site is clean, all tools are properly stored away and that the site is secured
- Ensure that any faulty equipment is tagged out and that Dispatch is made aware
- Make sure that BC 1 Call is up to date and that all other services in the area have been located ahead of ground disturbance
- Ensure the efficiency of equipment and labour on site
- Make sure that any personnel entering a confined space are trained and understand the procedure for entering that specific space
- Problem solve through coordination with Management and Engineering Professionals
- Other duties as required
