Job Summary
A Powersports Engine Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains engines and mechanical systems for powersports vehicles such as motorcycles, ATVs, boats, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and knowledge of two-stroke and four-stroke engines.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Repair, rebuild, and replace engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and drivetrain components
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, tune-ups, brake service, and fluid replacement
- Inspect vehicles for safety and performance issues
- Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical bulletins
- Install aftermarket parts and accessories
- Test ride or test run vehicles after repairs to ensure proper operation
- Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation
- Keep work area clean and follow safety procedures
- Communicate repair findings and recommendations to service advisors or customers
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on motorcycles, boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, or other powersports equipment
- Strong understanding of small engines, electrical systems
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and computerized diagnostic equipment
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions
- Valid driver’s license; motorcycle license may be an asset
- Technical certification or apprenticeship preferred
- Forklift/Telehandler licence may be an asset
Work Environment
- Repair shop or dealership setting
- Exposure to fuel, grease, noise, and moving mechanical parts
- May require weekend or seasonal overtime during peak riding seasons
