We provide monthly bookkeeping, payroll management, catch-up bookkeeping, corporate and personal tax preparation and advisory, CRA audit support, compilation engagements, business proposals and funding support, and wealth planning and corporate restructuring. ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an Accounts Manager to take full ownership of a portfolio of client files. This is a hands-on role with real client responsibility: you will manage the complete accounting cycle for your clients, prepare and file their returns, and act as their day-to-day point of contact. You will gain exposure to the full breadth of public practice, from bookkeeping through to financial reporting, compilations and tax planning, with direct mentorship from a CPA and the firm's Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bookkeeping and Financial Reporting
- Full-cycle bookkeeping and maintenance of accurate, complete and timely financial records and general ledgers
- Bank, credit-card and general-ledger reconciliations, including journal entries and adjusting entries
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable management, including invoicing, collections and vendor payments
- Month-end and year-end close for allocated client files
- Preparation of financial statements, working papers and management reports in accordance with applicable standards (including ASPE)
- Budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis
PST, GST, HST, WCB and Other Statutory Filings
- Regular PST and GST filings and remittances, and HST filings for clients operating outside British Columbia
- Preparation and filing of corporate and personal tax returns (T1, T2 and T3) and related information returns
- Payroll processing and source-deduction remittances, including CPP, EI and income tax
- Preparation and filing of T4, T4A and T5 slips and summaries
- WCB / WorkSafeBC registration, reporting and annual filings
- Employer Health Tax (EHT) returns and other provincial and federal statutory filings
- Monitoring filing calendars and deadlines to keep every client account compliant
Compilations, CRA and Client Advisory
- Preparation of and assistance with compilation engagements (CSRS 4200), year-end working papers and supporting schedules
- CRA correspondence and audit and review support, including responding to notices, queries and information requests
- Acting as the primary day-to-day contact for your allocated client portfolio
- Identifying tax-planning, process-improvement and advisory opportunities and raising them with the engagement lead
- Client onboarding, including setup and maintenance of accounting systems and the chart of accounts
Team and Quality
- Reviewing and supervising work prepared by junior staff, with coaching and feedback
- Maintaining quality control, documentation and file-management standards
- Meeting internal and statutory deadlines and keeping management informed of file status and risks
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (one of the following)
- Currently enrolled in the CPA Preparatory Courses (CPA PREP) through the CPA Western School of Business; or
- Currently enrolled in a Diploma in Accounting Program (DAP); or
- Currently enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP)
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 2+ years of Canadian accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting firm
- Hands-on experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, Wave or similar cloud accounting platforms
- Working knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal tax, PST/GST/HST and payroll compliance
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Solid understanding of full-cycle bookkeeping and financial statement preparation
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to business owners
- Highly organized and deadline-driven, able to manage multiple client files independently
- High level of accuracy, discretion and professionalism when handling confidential client information
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
WHY JOIN ACCEDGE
- Real ownership of a client portfolio rather than a narrow slice of the process
- Broad exposure across bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax, compilations and payroll in many industries
- Work that maps directly to your CPA practical experience requirements
- Direct mentorship from a CPA and the firm's Director
- A clear path to senior and management roles as the firm grows
