French Camp Instructor – Summer Camp, Bootcamp & Virtual French Programs
Le Petit Écolier French Language Centre is hiring French Camp Instructors for our summer programs in Oakville.
This is a fixed seasonal part-time position focused on teaching French to children during our summer camp, French Immersion Back-to-School Bootcamp, and selected virtual French programs.
We are looking for passionate, reliable, and engaging French instructors who can make French fun, structured, and accessible for children ages 4 to 11.
Position Details
Job Title: French Camp Instructor
Job Type: Fixed seasonal, part-time
Location: Oakville, Ontario
Program Format: In-person, with possible virtual teaching opportunities
Schedule: Weekday mornings, with additional opportunities depending on program needs
Typical Hours: 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Expected Hours: Approximately 10 to 12 hours per week during regular summer camp weeks, depending on enrolment and assigned weeks (20 to 25 hours during the Bootcamp week)
Pay: Starting at $25.00 per hour
Start Date: Summer 2026
Training: Paid training provided before camp begins
About Le Petit Écolier
Le Petit Écolier is a French language centre offering French classes, French immersion support, private lessons, adult programs, and seasonal French camps. Our summer programs help children build confidence in French through structured lessons, conversation, games, songs, projects, and immersive activities.
About the Role
The French Camp Instructor will lead the French learning portion of our summer programs. During our regular summer camp, children participate in structured French classes in the morning and theme-based camp activities in the afternoon. The instructor’s main responsibility is to teach the morning French classes and support the French learning objectives for each weekly theme.
Instructors may also be scheduled for our French Immersion Back-to-School Bootcamp, which focuses more intensively on French reading, writing, oral communication, vocabulary, and confidence-building for students preparing to return to school.
There may also be opportunities to teach virtual French camp sessions or online French classes, depending on enrolment and instructor availability.
Responsibilities
- Teach French to children ages 4 to 11.
- Lead structured French learning blocks during summer camp mornings.
- Teach beginner, intermediate, or French immersion students depending on placement.
- Adapt lessons for different ages and French levels.
- Use songs, games, stories, visuals, worksheets, role play, conversation, reading, and writing activities.
- Support weekly camp themes through French vocabulary and activities.
- Prepare simple, engaging, and age-appropriate French lessons.
- Teach or support French Immersion Back-to-School Bootcamp programming.
- Teach virtual French sessions if assigned and comfortable doing so.
- Work with camp counsellors to help reinforce French vocabulary throughout the day.
- Maintain a positive, safe, and encouraging learning environment.
- Communicate professionally with the camp coordinator and administrative team.
- Support smooth transitions during the morning camp period.
Qualifications
- Strong fluency in French required.
- Experience teaching or tutoring French preferred.
- Experience working with children ages 4 to 11 preferred.
- Experience with French immersion, Core French, FSL, DELF, or literacy support is an asset.
- OCT certification, education degree, or teaching background is an asset but not required.
- Comfortable teaching mixed-age or mixed-level groups.
- Comfortable teaching online is an asset.
- Must be reliable, punctual, organized, and professional.
- Must be able to create a warm and engaging classroom environment.
- Vulnerable Sector Check required or willingness to obtain one.
- First Aid/CPR is an asset.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Loves teaching French to children.
- Can make French fun, active, and engaging.
- Is comfortable teaching young beginners and/or French immersion students.
- Can adapt quickly to different levels.
- Works well with counsellors and administrative staff.
- Is dependable and understands the importance of consistency during camp.
- Is available for multiple weeks during the summer.
Schedule
Typical morning shift:
8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday to Friday
Some weeks may be shorter due to holidays. Additional hours may be available for French Immersion Bootcamp, virtual programs, training, preparation, or substitute teaching.
Compensation
Starting at $25.00 per hour
This role is separate from camp counsellor positions. French Camp Instructors are hired specifically to lead French instructional programming.
