Tool & Die Apprentice (2nd or 3rd Year)

MASTERFUL TEC is a registered apprenticeship program that was developed by ZF LIFETEC, in Midland, ON. This exclusive and structured one-of-a-kind training program is geared towards apprentices who have completed their first block of schooling, and provides apprentices with job training, as well as specific classroom training - which builds the skills they will require to successfully perform within our auto manufacturing facilities.
We are currently looking for 2nd or 3rd Year Tool & Die Apprentices to join our ever-expanding skilled trades team in Midland, ON.
As a Tool & Die Apprentice, what you can expect from our new and unique program are monthly reviews and skill challenges for each apprentice; monthly logbook inspection and testing; specialized training such as AB Rockwell software for PCL basics and troubleshooting; VFD and hydraulics trouble shooting; solid works training and 3D development; Robotic maintenance and AI laser measurement tools - just to name a few.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models.
- Prepare templates and sketches and determine work processes.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools.
- Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining.
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape workpiece to prescribed dimensions and finish.
- Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as verniers, calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and electronic measuring devices.
- Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools.
- Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation.
- May program CNC machine tools.
- Follow Company Environmental Health & Safety policies and PPE requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping and be familiar with, as well as follow, all safe operating procedures.
- Working a rotating shift and complete overtime – as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must have completed, or be in the process of completing, Level 2 of their apprenticeship program (430A).
- Minimum of 2,250 apprenticeship hours in the trade.
- Experience working within a team.
- Physically able to perform the heavy tasks that are required of a Tool & Die Maker.
- Able to read and write.
- Good mathematical skills.

- Eligible for tool allowance at upon entering the apprenticeship program.
- Shift premiums of 5% while working on afternoon shift and 7% while on night shift.
- Overtime paid out for hours worked above 40-hours within a weekly period.
