JOB TITLE: Audio Visual & Information Technology Technician

Report To: AV/IT Manager
1. JOB STATEMENT:
The AV/IT Technician attends, monitors, and supervises catering events during the setup, execution, and teardown phases. They also provide a consultative role to clients and YUSC stakeholders, lending their expertise in the design, execution, and general planning of AV/IT infrastructure and components.
They also operate and troubleshoot all AV and IT components and infrastructure within YUSC spaces and are primarily responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of all AV/IT systems.
Reporting directly to the AV/IT Coordinator, the AV/IT Technician provides IT support to all YUSC managers, executes IT-related special projects, and works under the Catering & Events Manager to ensure all events are executed professionally and that any issues are resolved in a timely manner.
2. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Operations
- Set up and tear down of the A/V component for each event as directed by the organizer and/or Catering & Events Manager
- Monitor and manage all IT/AV computer systems, AV and video conference systems and resources to ensure proper operation and support to ensure maximum performance.
- Be the principal point of contact for clients / stakeholders regarding any Tech and AV requirements
- Perform inventory counts and perform constant maintenance of all equipment
- Move equipment as necessary such as IT Infrastructure, stages, speakers, podiums etc to and from offices, storage areas and delivery zones.
- Performing upgrades, patches, and working with new applications and equipment.
- Monitor & perform all annual software subscriptions, website domain names and hosting services...
- Provide IT support for YUSC Retail & Food Service outlets, Conference Centre & Break Room.
- Operation, programming and troubleshooting of internal communications monitors located within the SSC & FSC
- Updating, maintenance and administration of all YUSC websites & Social Media Platforms alongside Marketing Department and Internal Communications
- Any other additional duties as assigned by the AV/IT Coordinator and the YUSC
B. Administration
- Be the principal point of contact with AV/IT technical component & support provider and perform contact functions as needed to address AV/IT system needs
- Be the principal point of contact with York UIT to address any university / YUSC related IT issues, network security and data security issues
- Report on any broken, obsolete, or malfunctioning AV/IT components to the management team
3. RELATIONSHIPS:
The AV/IT Tech reports directly to the AV/IT coordinator, as works directly with the Catering & Events Manager, Executive Director and accounting & marketing departments. At times, there will also be interaction with general YUSC staff and YFS staff & executives. They are also part of the overall YUSC structure and are expected to work in a courteous and respectable way to all YUSC Managers & Staff. The AV/IT Tech will also be the primary point of contact with AV/IT providers and service agreements on behalf of the YUSC.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Routinely moves various Event & IT infrastructure around YUSC & event spaces including staging, pipe & drape, tables chair etc.
- Dedicated office space within the YUSC with dedicated workstation
- Ability to move around spaces in a timely manner is required.
- Heavy lifting is also a required aspect of the job and lifting weights up to 60 lbs. is necessary
- The majority of events are performed within our conference center and meeting room facilities, at times, events may take place outside of our facilities in open air / outdoor environments, exposed to the elements
- Standing / Sitting for long periods of time

- Strict adherence to YUSC data security protocols and maintain the security integrity of confidential data, information and responsibilities.
- Anticipation of stakeholder needs, wants and preferences do avoid delays and to address concerns before they are communicated.
- Assist other AV/IT Technicians to perform more effectively. Should always be honest but respectful in comments to team members.
- Continually strive to improve the quality and delivery of services
6. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of sound systems and general AV components, control connectors and cabling
- Formal educational background in Information Technology management and/ or computer science an asset
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating audio, video & lighting equipment
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a IT support technician role or similar
- Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and presentation methods (i.e. PowerPoint)
- Expertise in working with live streaming and virtual meeting software i.e. Zoom, WebEx, Google Hangouts
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to work Windows and MAC OS environments
- Ability to lift up to 60lbs
