ASSISTANT GUIDE MANAGER
Job Description:
Under the specific direction of the Guiding and Operations Managers of STHS, the incumbent will assist in coordinating a culture of safety, focus on hazard management, and risk assessment for all STHS employees and contractors alike, while providing a positive, unique experience in the daily activities of helicopter skiing and boarding for the STHS guests. Additionally, the successful candidate will take on a senior leadership role in the STHS organizational structure. Performing duties in the office as needed in addition to lead guiding field work.
While coordinating with the Guiding Manager, supervising guides, lead guides and the Operations Manager, the Assistant Guide Manager will ultimately be responsible for the smooth and efficient daily ski operations, logistics and will work with the Guiding and Operations Manager to coordinate, schedule, hire, and supervise the guiding team.
Being a lead guide or guiding in general is a requirement as is working indoors both pre-season and during the seasonal operations.
Although the Assistant Guide Manager has defined duties they will work closely with the Guiding and Operations Managers and assist as required to ensure that their duties are fulfilled and have met current expectations and requirements for the company, contractors, staff and clients alike.
Key Responsibilities:
Includes all duties pertaining to a Supervising Guide and Duty Manager as well as:
- Review, evaluate, recognize, control and implement the required procedures and protocols, focusing on risk management pertinent to the organization, guests and staff, and how they pertain with HCC best practices.
- Oversee company logistics and operations pertaining to the daily ski program.
- In conjunction with the Guiding Manager, hire, train, supervise, schedule and mentor a seasonal guiding team that matches the company’s needs and demand.
- Be current and informed in all STHS policies and procedures pertinent to Lands and Wildlife, CAA, WCB, CORE, ACMG, HCC and pass on the relevant information to employees.
- Thorough knowledge of all STHS products, policies, and procedures.
- Guide reviews - Responsible for implementing mid-season review for ski guide and aspirant guides. End of season reviews for all guides on team.
- Liaison between Reservations and Sales team to ensure adequate staffing levels are achieved based on latest skier numbers.
Rates:
- Day rate ranging from $565 to $590 per day during ski season filling role as managing guide and guiding. This is a fixed day rate starting Dec 1- April 7 (estimate 60-80 days of office and guiding).
- Pre and Post Season administrative rate: $47-$49 per hour.
Minimum Requirements:
- Work eligibility in Canada – can provide work permit and SIN documentation
- Minimum 10 seasons STHS guiding experience, and 5 years lead guiding within STHS
- Ski Guide or Mountain Guide as a member of ACMG or UIAGM in good standing
- CAA Level 2 For Ski Operations and professional member in good standing.
- Current Advanced First Aid Minimum 80 hours
- Current AED & CPR Certification
- Valid Class 4 Drivers License
- CLASS D FIXED LINE helicopter rescue certification.
- Able to demonstrate professional and appropriate radio communications protocol.
Abilities Required:
- Proficient skier in all conditions.
- Excellent leadership and large team communication skills.
- To be in good physical condition to perform adequately in the wilderness environment
- Ability to lead by example when it comes to all tasks pertaining to safety, communication, and guest service.
- Computer Skills - Excels in Office in 365 applications and general computer literacy.
- Ability to motivate guides team members to perform to their best abilities daily.
- Supervisory Experience is an asset.
