Terra Nova Landscaping is a growing landscaping and construction services company known for its hands-on approach, strong industry relationships, and commitment to delivering high-quality work across the Halifax Regional Municipality. Supporting a variety of landscaping, construction, and site-related projects, the company has built a strong reputation through reliable execution and long-standing client partnerships.
The General Manager will oversee day-to-day operations while supporting business development and project execution across the region. Reporting directly to ownership, this role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong industry connections, operational experience, and the ability to help drive continued growth across the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will lead operations across field teams, projects, and business development initiatives while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably.
Key responsibilities include:
· Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and profitability across crews, projects, and equipment operations.
· Lead and manage field teams, equipment operators, supervisors, and project staff while fostering a strong culture of accountability and teamwork.
· Plan, coordinate, and deliver landscaping and construction-related projects on time and within budget.
· Manage scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation for crews, equipment, and operational requirements.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and industry partners throughout the Halifax market.
· Identify and secure new business opportunities through existing industry relationships, networking, and market presence.
· Support estimating, project planning, and operational decision-making to ensure successful project execution and profitability.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational best practices.
· Provide strategic leadership and operational direction to support company growth and long-term success.
· Maintain visibility within field operations and provide hands-on operational support when required.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hands-on operational leader with strong experience within landscaping, construction, excavation, or related industries. You bring a combination of leadership capability, operational expertise, and strong local industry relationships, along with the ability to balance project delivery, team leadership, and business development responsibilities.
Qualifications and experience include:
· 5+ years of operational leadership and project management experience within landscaping, construction, excavation, or related industries.
· Strong understanding of heavy equipment operations, with the ability to operate equipment when required.
· Proven experience leading crews, managing field operations, and overseeing day-to-day business performance.
· Strong client relationship management and business development capabilities.
· An established network of contacts within the Halifax or Nova Scotia construction and trades community is considered a strong asset.
· Experience managing budgets, operational performance, and overall business profitability.
· Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. ·
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment while balancing strategic leadership and operational involvement.
· Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of both operations and growth initiatives.
