We’re looking for a Senior Assistant Editor who brings technical expertise, precision, and a proactive mindset to help elevate our post-production workflows and support our growing team.
The Role
The Assistant Editor, Tech Lead plays a key role in the post-production team, combining hands-on execution with technical oversight. This person ensures the smooth running of projects by managing media, supporting editors and producers, and overseeing the proper implementation of established workflows.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment across both Toronto and Montreal teams.
Transparency matters to us. For this role, you can expect a salary between $60,000-85,000 annually, depending on experience. This is for an existing vacancy.
Responsibilities
- Organize, manage, and archive media assets using EditShare and Archiware
- Ingest, transcode, sync, and classify media efficiently and accurately
- Open projects and prepare editing sessions (EditShare)
- Prepare conforms for color grading and audio post-production
- Monitor and ensure proper implementation of established post-production workflows
- Oversee technical setup and maintenance of edit suites and workstations in collaboration with IT or external technical support
- Manage remote editing sessions and hybrid approval workflows (Jump Desktop or equivalent)
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to software, media, and workflows (first line of support)
- Handle corrections, versioning, adaptations, and exports
- Perform quality control on deliverables to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Support editors, assistant editors, producers, and motion designers in day-to-day operations
- Assist with color, motion design, and other post-production tasks when needed
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure proper functioning of all post-production tools
- Anticipate technical challenges and contribute to problem-solving
- Stay current with evolving technologies and industry best practices
- Collaborate closely with teams in both Toronto and Montreal
Qualifications
- 4-5 years of experience in a post-production or assistant editing role
- Strong understanding of video formats, codecs, and post-production workflows
- Proficiency in EditShare, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and After Effects
- Experience with Archiware or similar archiving systems
- Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Self-sufficient, proactive, and solution-driven
- Comfortable working in hybrid and remote production environments
- Experience in color grading, motion graphics, or audio workflows is an asset
- Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools
