Civil / Underground - 309A Electrician
About the Role
Sid Grabell Contracting (SGC) is a well-established industrial and commercial electrical contractor serving the Niagara Region and surrounding areas. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Civil 309A Electrician to join our team.
This position is ideal for a licensed 309A Electrician who enjoys outdoor construction work and has experience with underground electrical distribution, conduit systems, transformers, vaults, duct banks, and related civil infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work alongside SGC’s electrical and civil crews to complete underground power-distribution projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project drawings, utility standards, and electrical-code requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Install underground primary, secondary, and communications PVC conduit systems for new site servicing projects
· Install concrete-encased duct banks in accordance with project specifications and utility standards
· Install transformer vaults, concrete electrical vaults, and underground distribution equipment foundations
· Install manholes, handwells, pull pits, grade-level boxes, and associated underground electrical infrastructure
· Install grounding systems, including transformer grounding grids, equipment grounding systems, ground rods, and bonding in accordance with utility standards and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
· Install padmount transformers, including equipment setting, anchoring, cable terminations, grounding, and commissioning assistance where required
· Install electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear, sectionalizing cabinets, distribution kiosks, pedestals, and associated equipment, including setting, anchoring, grounding, and terminations where required
· Install parking lot lighting systems, including conduit, foundations, pole bases, cable installation, and electrical terminations
· Install EV charging infrastructure, including conduit systems, concrete foundations, cable installation, equipment mounting, and final terminations
· Install steel and concrete bollards, illuminated bollards, grounding and bonding systems, and associated electrical connections
· Perform cable pulling, splicing, and terminations for underground electrical distribution systems
· Diagnose and repair damaged underground electrical infrastructure, including conduit systems, vaults, handwells, underground distribution equipment, lighting circuits, and electrical services
· Read and interpret civil drawings, electrical drawings, utility standards, and site servicing plans
· Coordinate with excavation crews, hydrovac operators, directional drill operators, surveyors, and project supervisors to ensure efficient project execution
· Operate equipment and tools safely while maintaining high-quality workmanship
· Ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, utility standards, and project specifications
· Follow all Ministry of Labour and company safety policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
Qualifications
· Valid 309A Electrical Licence
· Minimum 3+ years of post-licence experience
· Civil electrical experience
· Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code
· Proven troubleshooting skills and strong attention to detail
· Solid understanding of the Ontario Health and Safety Act
· Self-starter with good organizational and communication skills
· Clean driver’s abstract and valid driver’s licence
· Own hand tools

Pay: $45.00-$50.00 per hour
