Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical/Electrical Engineer will lead the design, development, testing, and certification of new and existing products. This role is responsible for transforming concepts into production-ready solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable UL, CSA, and other regulatory standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality assurance, and suppliers to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective products that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new mechanical and electrical products from concept through production.
- Improve and optimize existing products for performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
- Develop engineering drawings, 3D models, electrical schematics, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Select components and materials based on technical performance, cost, and regulatory requirements.
- Design, build, and evaluate prototypes, validating performance through testing and analysis.
- Plan and execute verification and validation testing to ensure products meet functional and safety requirements.
- Manage the certification process for products, including UL, CSA, and other applicable regulatory approvals.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation required for certification submissions and audits.
- Liaise directly with certification agencies, testing laboratories, and regulatory authorities throughout the approval process.
- Investigate design issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production.
- Support production by resolving engineering issues and implementing continuous product improvements.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical, mechanical, safety, and environmental standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across product development projects.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, materials, manufacturing methods, and industry standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product design and development.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical system design.
- Hands-on experience with UL, CSA, and other North American product certification standards.
- Experience preparing technical files and documentation for certification submissions.
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar).
- Experience with electrical schematic design software.
- Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience with prototype development, testing, and product validation.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing industrial & power-related electrical products.
- Familiarity with IEC, CE, and international product standards.
- Experience with FMEA, risk assessment, and product lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, plastics, and electrical assembly.
- Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and suppliers.

Pay: $120,000.00 per year
