CBC News Podcasts is looking for an expert in short-form video storytelling and editing, with a passion for podcasts, to help us reach new audiences with our podcast content. This work supports the CBC News Podcasting strategy, which exists to reach new audiences for CBC’s journalism in the podcast and digital audio space.
This is a 12 month temporary, full-time position, Monday to Friday, primarily daytime hours but with flexibility for working with team members coast-to-coast. It is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in the workplace at least three days a week, at any of CBC locations in Canada.

We work with CBC teams in several ways;
producing original always-on news podcasts like Front Burner and Two Blocks from the White House
supporting our local This Is podcasts
assisting network audio and video teams to increase their podcasting presence
developing original news podcast series like See You In Court and upcoming investigative series.
We work in deep collaboration with CBC News Studios, the Podcast Audience Growth Hub, and CBC Podcasts to create audience-focused podcast content and best practices around podcasting.
The successful candidate for this position will be a creative thinker who puts audience needs at the centre of their decision-making, ensuring our podcast video content performs across all platforms, including CBC’s owned and operated apps, YouTube and TikTok.
You are at the leading edge of changing audience consumption trends in the digital space. You have a deep understanding of the values of public broadcasting, and the importance of news journalism.
You are a natural visual storyteller, and have both the editorial and technical skills needed to keep up in a deadline-driven production environment. You use data to make decisions and stay on top of consumption patterns.
You have experience in focussing and packaging visual stories for a variety of audiences. You are curious, eager to learn and throw yourself headfirst into change, big or small. You take initiative, are collaborative and a great communicator.
You have a background in journalism and are comfortable conceiving of, creating and packaging video content across platforms in a variety of formats and treatments. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, are a strong planner and organizer, and are at ease with juggling multiple tasks and priorities at once.
The position requires work in a CBC location, preferably Toronto.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editing a weekly full-video podcast episode for YouTube.
- Identify and help adopt platform trends and new vertical video storytelling formats.
- Conceive, research, write, fact-check, shoot, produce and edit video content, including short-form vertical video, to help our news podcast content reach new audiences.
- This work may include repackaging existing show content, or creating new social videos, explainers and complementary content.
- Work with story teams to optimize, package and distribute content for CBC’s platforms as well as on TikTok, YouTube, etc.
- Make informed editorial decisions in complex, time‑sensitive environments, and ensure review notes are addressed.
- Coordinating with producers, hosts, videographers and other staff members on production schedules and timelines.
- Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their on-air skills and produce content of the highest quality.
- Collect and assess analytics from videos on social platforms and CBC.ca to inform editorial decisions and feedback reports,
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- A university degree in journalism or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years experience in digital/social media video creation and editing.
- Proven writing, producing, and audio/video editing skills, with a knack for packaging that pops.
- Strong contributor of ideas and treatments.
- Demonstrated solid news judgment and a strong understanding of the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Good understanding of Canadian copyright law and how it applies to visual assets.
- Experience sourcing visuals using AVID/MAM, CBC archives, and other tools.
- Comfort and fluency with a variety of digital analytic tools and metrics.
- Experience pitching and developing stories with a clear focus for social audiences.
- The ability to generate treatment ideas and angles for local stories that meet audience needs.
- Knowledge of how to repackage existing show content and hone the focus for a social audience.
- Skilled at editing with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar editing software.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends, as required.
