About Us
SimcoDerm Medical & Surgical Dermatology Centre is a busy referral-based dermatology practice providing medical, surgical, and clinical research services to patients across Central Ontario. Our physicians diagnose and treat skin cancer, inflammatory skin diseases, psoriasis, eczema, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa, vitiligo, alopecia, and many other dermatologic conditions.
We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Associate to work closely with our dermatologists in providing efficient, high-quality patient care. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse, International Medical Graduate (IMG), or other qualified healthcare professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced specialty practice.
Position Summary
The Physician Associate functions as an extension of the dermatologist by assisting with patient management under physician supervision and in accordance with Ontario legislation, CPSO policies, delegation of controlled acts, employer policies, and the individual’s professional scope of practice.
The successful candidate will improve patient flow while ensuring safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Patient Care
- Review patients prior to physician assessment.
- Obtain focused medical histories.
- Update medications, allergies and medical records.
- Document patient encounters in the EMR.
- Prepare patients for examination and procedures.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Explain pathology results following physician review and documented management plans.
- Reinforce physician instructions and answer routine patient questions.
- Review routine laboratory investigations according to physician directives.
- Notify physicians of abnormal or urgent findings.
- Assist with medication monitoring.
- Conduct telephone and virtual follow-up visits where appropriate.
- Renew medications according to physician-approved treatment plans and clinic protocols.
- Coordinate referrals, investigations and follow-up appointments.
Dermatology Procedures
Under physician delegation and appropriate competency assessment:
- Apply liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) for benign and premalignant skin lesions.
- Assist with skin biopsies and surgical procedures.
- Perform wound assessments and dressing changes.
- Remove sutures and staples.
- Perform photography for lesion monitoring.
- Prepare surgical trays and procedure rooms.
- Provide post-operative instructions.
Pathology & Results Management
- Review pathology reports with supervising dermatologist.
- Communicate benign and malignant pathology results to patients according to physician instructions.
- Arrange surgical bookings.
- Coordinate referrals for Mohs surgery, plastic surgery, ENT or oncology.
- Ensure timely follow-up of all pathology reports.
- Maintain pathology tracking systems.
Medication Management
Following physician-approved protocols:
- Process prescription renewals.
- Educate patients regarding medications.
- Monitor treatment response.
- Arrange laboratory monitoring.
- Identify potential adverse effects requiring physician review.
- Prior authorization paperwork.
- Special Access Program documentation.
- Insurance forms.
Care Coordination
- Schedule surgical procedures.
- Coordinate referrals.
- Communicate with family physicians and specialists.
- Prepare consultation letters.
- Ensure investigations are completed.
- Track urgent referrals.
Clinical Documentation
- Prepare comprehensive encounter notes.
- Document patient education.
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation.
- Complete medical forms.
- Ensure compliance with CPSO, Health Canada, PHIPA and clinic policies.
Qualifications
One of the following:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with extensive dermatology experience
- International Medical Graduate (IMG) eligible to work in Canada
- Internationally Educated Physician
- Other regulated healthcare professional with appropriate experience
Preferred:
- Dermatology experience
- Minor procedure experience
- Skin cancer experience
- Electronic Medical Record experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
What You’ll Be Doing Daily

- Reviewing blood work
- Discussing pathology results with patients
- Providing education on skin cancers and treatment plans
- Applying liquid nitrogen treatments
- Renewing prescriptions
- Booking surgeries
- Coordinating referrals
- Assisting physicians during procedures
- Preparing encounter documentation
- Responding to patient questions
- Following up outstanding investigations

This position involves working directly with dermatologists in a busy specialty clinic caring for patients with:

Important Note
The Physician Associate provides care under physician supervision and delegated authority, in accordance with Ontario legislation, CPSO expectations, applicable regulatory college standards, employer policies, and the individual’s professional scope of practice. Independent diagnosis or independent performance of controlled acts beyond delegated authority is not permitted.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
