Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lawyer to join our Edmonton team. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who enjoys a variety of legal works in a dynamic, technology-driven environment. The successful candidate will serve as an internal legal guide, contracts drafter, notary and advisor across our incorporation and legal services operations.
This role is best suited to a lawyer who is self-directed, comfortable working with online systems, and interested in contributing to the growth and development of legal products and services at a company that blends law, technology and business.
This position is based at our Edmonton office (T6V 0M7) and offers the flexibility of in-person or remote work arrangement.
We are looking for full-time or part-time positions. Compensation will be discussed based on scope and hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Drafting & Legal Products
- Draft, review and finalize a wide variety of legal contracts for clients across all Canadian jurisdictions, including shareholder agreements, employment contracts, partnership agreements, residential and commercial lease agreements, wills and testaments, loan agreements, corporation articles, bylaws, amendments, and other standard legal documents.
- Review and approve final contract drafts prepared by paralegal or registry agents before delivery to clients.
Internal Legal Advisory
- Advising the employer and its staff on incorporation and registration services, business dissolution or revival, amalgamation, franchise arrangements, intellectual property protection (trademark, copyright and patent matters).
- Drafting legal and business documents for internal company needs and company websites, including disclosures, privacy policies, terms and conditions, and other compliance documentation.
- Guide and advise corporate registry agents on legal matters related to incorporation and business structuring.
- Advise management on legal considerations related to business expansion and new service offerings.
Notary & Client Advisory Services
- Provide notary public services to walk-in clients and for internal documentation across sister companies.
- Provide legal consultation services to clients via phone and in-person, primarily on matters related to corporation setup, legal contracts and general business law.
- Providing statutory declarations, affidavits, immigration invitation letters, child travel consents or any other custom legal documents to the customers.
- Business Development & Team Collaboration
- Proactively identify opportunities to develop new legal products and services in collaboration with the Business Development team.
- Collaborate with the Web Development team to define dynamic contract form variables, enabling clients to generate customized legal documents online.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements:
- Active member of the Law Society of Alberta in good standing.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate and business laws, and registry procedures of Alberta and Federal Canada.
- Demonstrated experience drafting commercial, corporate or general legal contracts.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, Google Workspace, MS Office Suite and digital document management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Reliable, honest, and trustworthy with a high standard of professional ethics.
- Self-directed and capable of managing a varied workload with minimal supervision.
- Collaborative and comfortable working in a diverse, multicultural team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background or training in real estate law or family law.
- Familiarity with legal requirements across multiple Canadian provinces for common contract types.
- Experience working in a paralegal services firm, corporate registry or online legal services environment.
- Experience of working alongside web development teams to offer digital legal products.
