Job Overview
About us
AI that helps people think better. Built from the ground up.
Juniper Learning Technologies is a team of seasoned learning-design experts creating customized education solutions for professional and corporate learning. We combine deep expertise in learning strategy, competency development, assessment, and scenario-based learning to help organizations build meaningful, lasting capability.
Juniper Learning Technologies builds JuniperAI, an AI feedback tool for professional and corporate learning programs. Instead of a score, JuniperAI analyses what a learner wrote, responds to their reasoning in detail, and invites them to try again until the skill is built. It is configured to each program's rubrics, scenarios, and definition of good professional judgment, and its feedback is specific, grounded in the learner's own work, and consistent for every learner on every attempt.
About the role
We are hiring a full-time developer to own the JuniperAI codebase end to end: the web application, the data layer, the AI pipeline, and the infrastructure it runs on. There is no engineering manager: you will set the development process yourself, working to the quality standards we hold across our business. You will decide how the product gets built, ship it, and support it.
You will take a validated product concept and turn it into a shipped, scalable SaaS product. Early on you build the foundational stack and convert the concept into working software.
This role suits a senior individual contributor who works well without oversight and enjoys a wide variety of tasks.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain the JuniperAI web application, front-end to back-end
- Build and improve agentic AI pipelines on top of LLM APIs, including prompt design, retrieval or context management where needed, evaluation, observability, and quality gates
- Own the database, integrations, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and production support
- Work directly with the founder to turn learning-design requirements into working software
- Set the technical direction: stack choices, architecture, tooling, and standards
- Design for privacy, security, reliability, and maintainability from the start, including sensible access controls, auditability, backups, and secure handling of learner and client data.
- Ship a functional first version fast, using AI tooling and modern frameworks
- Own code quality, performance, and security from day one
- Support customer demos, integrations, and escalations
- Set the engineering bar for the first technical hires that follow you
What success looks like
- A first product version live within the first two months
- A codebase another engineer can pick up in a week
- A venture on a credible path to meaningful ARR inside the first year
What we're looking for
- 5+ years shipping SaaS products and full-stack web applications, with production systems you can point to. Founding engineer or technical lead experience preferred
- Hands-on experience building production systems with LLMs, such as agents, prompt-driven workflows, AI APIs, evaluation harnesses, or guardrails
- Comfortable as the only developer: self-directed, pragmatic, and able to make disciplined scope and implementation decisions without close technical oversight
- Able to scope projects realistically, prioritize competing demands, and deliver on the timelines you commit to
- Sound judgment about software quality, automated testing, evaluation, and release practices in a product where accuracy matters
- Clear communication with non-developers
- Strong care with privacy, security, and data management, including responsible handling of learner work and confidential client content
- Full-time commitment to this role
Nice to have
- Experience with education, assessment, or other content-heavy products
- Experience running evaluations or QA for AI systems
- Experience choosing and evolving a practical technology stack for a small product team, including making trade-offs about speed, maintainability, cost, and risk.
If you'd rather build something from the ground up than inherit another predictable product roadmap, we'd love to hear from you.
