Purpose of the Position:
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing expertise, oversight and leadership along with technical direction to the project team. Under the direction of the Project Manager and the EIC Manager, project work will focus on the electrical engineering and design and must be in accordance with industry codes, regulations, established standards and best practices.
- Developing and applying project management and technical competencies relating to the EI&C department while coordinating and leading all day-to-day operating functions
- Prioritize and assign tasks to personnel to ensure successful, timely and profitable execution of projects
- Provide technical guidance and review key project documents produced by the EI&C department, automation engineers, technologists and designers - including QC of electrical drawings
- Supervise and provide technical direction to design activities undertaken by engineering and design staff working on the assigned projects
Prepare reports and technical documents including:
- Electrical equipment and components selection, sizing, and specification
- Cost estimates, bill materials, and project schedule
- Procurement and expediting
- Design documentation and correspondence
- Construction packages and operation manuals
- Control narratives, shut down keys, P&ID development
Prepare and review electrical engineering calculations and drawings including:
- Electrical load list
- Single line diagram
- Area classification
- Cable schedule
- Voltage Drop
- Lighting calculations
- Control schematics
- Arc flash studies
- Device coordination
Perform electrical services such as:
- Identify and report changes to project scope
- Assist with the preparation of proposals, estimates, budgets and schedules
- Provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities
- Contribute to appropriate studies, analyses and recommend actions
- Assist with the preparation of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations and reports
- Review and approve electrical equipment specifications and data sheets, including transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, protection relays, motors, generators transmission, and distribution equipment
- Perform progress reports and execute change management process
- Ensure consistency and integrity of electrical design throughout the project
- Coordinate project requirements with project team members
- Must be able to communicate detailed design issues effectively with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines
- Review vendor drawings and documents for compliance with requirements
- Work on internal processes consistent with corporate standards and policies
- Review workload on an on-going basis with Project Engineer or Project Manager, to assess assigned work, review project progress and give/receive feedback
- Maintain Engineering hours within established project budget
- Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering
- Support Engineering’s HSE initiatives
- Other senior engineering duties, as required
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in Canadian oil & gas industry (preferably EPC), power generation and petrochemical processing facilities with experience as a technical team leader
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university
- Professional engineering registered or eligible for registry with APEGA
- Familiarity with Canadian Electric Code, all federal/provincial safety policies and procedures required
- Working knowledge and proficiency with CSA, CEC, NEC, IEEE, API, and other accepted industry Codes and Standards
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Excellent organizational, project management and teamwork skills
- Strong communication skills: verbal, business writing, electronic communications and presentations
