POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Community & Protective Services Director, this position will deliver Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) resources to Town leaders and staff to prevent occupational incidents, injuries, and illness. This position will support safe working environments by maintaining administrative processes and implement the framework for the health and safety management system (HSMS). This position will act as a change agent to oversee and drive monitoring and compliance of OHS functions.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration
- Support site supervision with implementation and management for the Town of Hinton Safety Program
- Required to participate and submit health and safety inspections in the workplace
- Responsible for investigating incidents in the workplace
- Maintain statistics and records for Health and Safety
- Analyze site-specific trends and incidents
- Provides site specific orientation to workers and/or visitors new to the job
- Responsible for uploading documentation to Workhub
- Manage and review documents including data entry, taking minutes, and filing
- Support ongoing Health and Safety initiatives
- Work with subject matter experts to determine OH&S requirements
- Support safe working environments by maintaining administrative processes
- Provides coaching and support to leaders and staff
Safety Compliance
- Provide support to staff regarding legislated requirements
- Attend departmental health and safety meetings as required
Training
- Participate in training as required
- Develop training materials for health and safety training initiatives and education sessions
- Maintain a tracking system to ensure staff training are current
- Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or degree in Health and Safety, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years work experience in an administrative role or similar position with preference to work in a health and safety environment
- Knowledge of relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulation and code
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, computers and systems
- Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check
- A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours
Work weekdays and occasionally respond to and assist with safety related after hour calls during evenings and/or weekends on a as needed basis.
Physical Effort
Office-based work performed in Town buildings. Varying levels of physical effort, including heavy lifting (up to 25 kgs), sitting, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, driving, carrying. Repeated motion of office tasks.
Travel
Some travel to field sites within and outside the Town under various road and weather conditions. Must maintain alertness and respond appropriately using defensive driving skills in various conditions (traffic, weather, distractions).
Work Environment
Moderate exposure to an office, shop/yard environments, and the field. Includes storage areas and other support infrastructure. Limited to Moderate exposure to the public. Potential exposure to hazards such as cleaning supplies and fluids. Remote work feasible in accordance with Town remote work directives, policies, and procedures.
