We are seeking an experienced MSE Wall Inspector to represent our interests as manufacturer's representative on an active Alberta Transportation project in Red Deer, AB. You will be on-site to ensure the wall system is being installed correctly in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines, project drawings, and Alberta Transportation specifications.
This role is not a geotechnical inspection position. The role is to observe and document installation quality on behalf of the manufacturer, provide guidance to the installation crew on correct product handling and placement, and communicate any deviations or concerns to the appropriate parties. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working alongside a construction crew and representing the manufacturer in a professional capacity with the contractor, owner, and owner's representative.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and document MSE wall installation activities on behalf of the manufacturer, including strap placement, backfill and compaction, and facing panel erection
- Verify that materials delivered to site are correct, undamaged, and handled in accordance with manufacturer requirements
- Provide on-site guidance to the installation crew on correct product installation methods
- Prepare clear daily field reports documenting installation progress, observations, and any non-conformances
- Communicate effectively with the contractor, project engineer, owner's representative, and Alberta Transportation representatives as required
- Escalate installation issues or deviations from manufacturer guidelines promptly and professionally
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience with MSE wall construction and installation
- Demonstrated familiarity with Alberta Transportation specifications and standard drawings related to retaining wall construction
- Prior experience on Alberta Transportation construction contracts is strongly preferred
- Technologist designation (C.Tech. or A.Sc.T.) or P.Eng. registration preferred
- Strong attention to detail with a thorough and methodical approach to field documentation
- Personable and professional, with the ability to build positive working relationships with contractors, project teams, and owner representatives
- Clear verbal and written communication skills , this role requires confident, independent communication with multiple project stakeholders
- Reliable and self-directed, comfortable managing day-to-day responsibilities independently in a field setting with an extended weekly schedule including alternating Sundays
Compensation
Hourly rate is overtime inclusive
The hourly rate for this position has been structured to reflect the extended work schedule, including all weekend and overtime hours. No separate overtime pay is provided; the all-in rate is set to be equivalent in total compensation. The rate will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
Contract duration and schedule
Work hours mirror the contractor's schedule, currently planned at 6 days per week with alternating Sundays. You will not be required on-site on days the contractor is not working. No winter work is anticipated; the contract will be suspended during the winter season and may be extended when construction resumes in the spring, subject to project requirements.
Long-term opportunity
We are actively growing our MSE wall inspection work and see this as a longer-term relationship. Candidates who perform well on this project will be considered for future MSE wall projects when this contract concludes. A full time position may be offered at a renegotiated rate at the conclusion of this project.
