Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, safety-minded Packing Team Lead / Forklift Operator to join our dynamic team for a 4-month temporary contract at our fast-paced potato packaging facility. This hybrid role requires an experienced operator who can smoothly balance daily material handling with floor leadership. You will operate equipment, manage packing line workflows, and guide team members to ensure product quality, strict food safety compliance, and daily shipping targets are met.
Key Responsibilities
Packing Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Direct Daily Operations: Oversee the evening packing line workflows to ensure daily production targets are met.
- Guide the Team: Act as the primary point of contact for line workers, answering questions and resolving issues.
- Enforce Safety Standards: Monitor team compliance with facility safety protocols, food hygiene standards, and proper PPE usage.
- Report Progress: Communicate shift productivity, inventory updates, and equipment issues directly to the Floor Supervisor.
Equipment Operation & Material Handling:
- Operate Machinery: Safely run forklifts, clamp trucks, and other material handling equipment to move bulk potatoes and finished products.
- Fulfill Orders: Perform accurate staging and palletizing tasks to fulfill customer requests efficiently.
- Track Inventory: Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to log stock movement and manage storage locations.
- Maintain Equipment: Conduct routine pre-shift inspections and use your mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- Heavy Lifting: Manually lift, move, and stack heavy materials up to 50 lbs as required by production demands.
- Organize Space: Maintain a clean, sanitary, and hazard-free warehouse and packing area.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certification: Valid Food Handlers Certificate and current Forklift Operating Certification are both required.
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in warehouse distribution or food manufacturing; previous team lead experience preferred.
- Equipment Mastery: Proven proficiency operating clamp trucks and standard forklifts.
- Tech & Math Skills: Familiarity with WMS software and basic math for inventory tracking.
- Mechanical Knowledge: Strong mechanical aptitude to spot and troubleshoot minor equipment or packing line issues.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy loads safely and stand/walk for extended periods in a production environment.
- Availability: Must be available for the full 4-month duration, working the 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM shift and a Saturday half-day if required.
Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour
