Safety Watch – Grande Prairie, AB
Phoenix Energy Services specializes in delivering reliable electrical, instrumentation, automation, safety, and compression services across Western Canada. We are preparing for the industrial turnaround season and hiring safety professionals of all levels.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Setting up, inspecting, and maintaining safety equipment
- Ensuring all incidents are reported and investigated immediately
- Participating in all pre-job meetings with an emphasis on specific worksite hazards
- Knowing the whereabouts of all safety equipment: Fire Extinguishers/Pull Stations, Eye Wash Stations, Shower Units, First Aid Room(s), Muster Locations, Breathing Apparatuses, etc.
- Perform on-site safety watch, confined space entry watch and atmospheric testing, spark/fire watch, and gas detection.
- Provide support to ensure that all on-site personnel work in a safe manner and comply with company and regulatory/legislative requirements for Occupational Health & Safety.
- Follow and be an advocate for all rules, policies and procedures as per the client’s health and safety program, company HSE program, and all other applicable legislation.
- Intervene in unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to influence safe behaviors and to create a safe working environment.
- Champion the company’s safety culture and safe work practices.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Strong observational and listening skills
- Verbal and written proficiency in English
Physically capable of performing the following tasks:
- Working at heights and / or climbing ladders
- Working in small / confined spaces
- Lifting up to 50lbs
- Pushing / pulling (tools / objects)
- Sitting / driving
- Bending / kneeling / crouching
- Standing / walking for long periods of time
- Working in adverse weather environments (heat / cold) and conditions (rain / wind)
- Potential shift lengths 10/12 hours, should be available to work longer if client requirements demand longer shifts or schedule changes
- Employee must ensure that they are staying hydrated, alert and fit for duty at all time
Qualifications:
- Previous field safety or related experience is considered an asset.
- Must have the following safety tickets (or willing to obtain): H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Detection and Control of flammable substances (Energy Safety Canada) and Common Safety Orientation (CSO).
- Must hold a valid Driver's License and a clean Driver's Abstract.
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Willing to work outdoors, work an irregular schedule (including nightshifts and weekends), and travel to various client sites.
- Must be capable of working with limited supervision and able to exercise initiative and sound judgement.
