As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join our engineering team.
Position Summary
The Intermediate / Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for the design, documentation, and engineering support of custom electrical power distribution equipment. Working closely with electrical and mechanical engineering, production, purchasing, quality, and sales, you will develop practical, manufacturable designs that meet customer specifications, applicable codes, and project schedules.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges and wants to work on complex, custom-engineered projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design custom electrical power distribution equipment including:
- UL891 Switchboards
- UL1008 Automatic Transfer Switches
- UPS Bypass Systems
- Generator Docking Stations
- Distribution Panels
- Custom Control Panels
- Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and manufacturing drawings.
- Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Select electrical components including circuit breakers, relays, meters, transformers, PLCs, control devices, and protective equipment.
- Review customer specifications and contract documents.
- Coordinate with mechanical designers, production, purchasing, and project management.
- Support manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, NEC, and customer specifications.
- Participate in continuous improvement and product standardization initiatives.
- Mentor junior designers when required.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 7 years of related electrical design experience, preferably in electrical equipment manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of low-voltage power distribution systems.
- Experience designing electrical schematics and manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
Assets
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility.
- Experience with UL891 switchboards, UL1008 transfer switches, switchgear, UPS systems, generator systems, or industrial control panels.
- Familiarity with UL, CSA, and NEC standards.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
Software Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:
- AutoCAD Electrical
- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks or SolidWorks Electrical
- EPLAN
- Microsoft Office Suite
- ERP/MRP systems
