Come join our growing team at iCare Surgical Centre. We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Surgical Counselor to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in guiding patients through their surgical journey, providing personalized support, and ensuring a smooth pre- and post-operative experience. Moreover, they will be passionate about patient care, professional relationship building, and community outreach. Duties
- Acts as an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon, primary care physician, and the surgical facility in all aspects of pre-operative preparations, ensuring to maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout.
- Ensure all patient interactions and documentation are handled confidentially and in compliance with practice protocols.
- Provide pre-screening consultations with patients when required.
- Counsel patients with respect to diagnostic testing and cataract lens options, rationale, function and costs.
- Complete surgical paperwork efficiently, including obtaining necessary signatures for legal documents, particularly for OHIP and non-OHIP patients.
- Collaborate with patients and their families to assess care needs, determine lens eligibility, and develop individualized surgical plans.
- Coordinate pre-surgery measurements, testing, and post-op appointments.
- Address patient inquiries, manage complaints, and direct calls to appropriate departments as necessary.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organization with attention to detail.
- Analytical problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Capability of meeting patient surgical scheduling volumes as established by the lead technician.
- French would be an asset but is not required.

- Ophthalmology: 1 year (preferred)
- Surgical Counselling: 2 years (required)
