Senior Business Analyst (Hybrid Product Owner / BA)
Role Summary
We're looking for a Senior Business Analyst to be the bridge between business stakeholders and a technical delivery team. This is a hybrid Product Owner / Business Analyst role: you'll own and prioritize the work backlog like a Product Owner, and dig into requirements, process, and data like a Business Analyst. You'll work closely and directly with the Solution Architect, Delivery Manager, and Business Stakeholders to turn business needs into clear, well-prioritized work the team can build.
You're comfortable enough with how software systems fit together to ask good questions and understand trade-offs — without being the person who writes the code.
What You'll Do
Product Ownership
* Own, refine, and prioritize the backlog against business value, dependencies, and team capacity.
* Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria the team can pick up with minimal back-and-forth.
* Make and communicate scope and trade-off decisions; be the authoritative voice on "what" and "why."
* Set sprint goals with the Delivery Manager; accept or reject completed work against the agreed criteria.
* Keep a forward-looking roadmap and keep stakeholders aligned on timing and expectations.
Business Analysis
* Gather requirements from stakeholders through interviews, workshops, and process walkthroughs.
* Map how things work today and how they should work in the future; spot gaps, edge cases, and requirements like compliance and data handling.
* Translate business rules into clear specifications and process flows.
* Partner with the Solution Architect to sanity-check feasibility and impact before work is committed.
* Define how success will be measured, and confirm what's delivered actually meets the need.
Delivery & Collaboration
* Work directly with the Solution Architect on how solutions should be shaped and how the pieces connect.
* Work with the Delivery Manager on planning, capacity, risk, and dependencies.
* Run backlog refinement, contribute to sprint planning, and lead stakeholder reviews and demos.
* Be the go-to person for the team's questions during a sprint, unblocking them quickly and decisively.
* Keep stakeholders informed on status, trade-offs, risks, and changes — clearly and proactively.
About the Environment
The team builds and maintains a set of connected backend services that support the business. You don't need a technical background to write code, but you should be comfortable understanding, at a working level:
* How the pieces connect — the product is made of several smaller services that work together, each with its own responsibilities.
* How information flows — systems pass information and trigger actions between each other, often behind the scenes.
* Multi-step business processes — some processes run over time and span several systems and steps.
* Third-party integrations — the product connects to outside services (for example, payments, sign-in, and notifications).
The ability to reason about how a change in one area affects others — and to ask the right questions of the technical team — is what sets a great candidate apart.
Must-Have Qualifications
* 5+ years as a Business Analyst and/or Product Owner, including hands-on backlog ownership in an Agile/Scrum environment.
* Proven ability to work directly with senior technical partners and translate between business and technical audiences
* Strong requirements skills: user stories, acceptance criteria, process mapping, and data/business-rules analysis.
* Comfort understanding how systems and integrations work at a high level — enough to ask the right questions.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; able to drive alignment and decisions across competing priorities.
* Experience with common tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) and Agile ceremonies.
Nice to Have
* Experience on products made up of multiple connected services or automated, multi-step processes.
* Exposure to regulated industries (e.g., healthcare), with attention to compliance, privacy, and record-keeping.
* Experience defining success metrics and confirming delivered work meets them.
* Certifications such as CBAP, CSPO/PSPO, or equivalent.
Ways of Working
* Decisive under ambiguity — turns unclear asks into clear, prioritized work.
* Bridges two worlds — equally credible in a stakeholder meeting and a technical discussion.
* Detail-rigorous — edge cases, dependencies, and non-obvious requirements don't slip through.
* Outcome-oriented — anchors decisions to business value, not volume of output.
* Collaborative — builds trust with the Solution Architect, Delivery Manager, and stakeholders alike.
