The Maintenance Supervisor – Multi-Site Operations is responsible for leading and coordinating maintenance activities across multiple food manufacturing facilities. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all production equipment, facility systems, and utilities while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, and health and safety standards.
The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, lead maintenance employees, support equipment reliability initiatives, and work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and Engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
This role requires regular travel between the company’s Etobicoke, Mississauga, and Markham facilities to provide maintenance leadership, support operational needs, and ensure consistent maintenance practices across all locations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations
- Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily maintenance activities across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Provide leadership and direction to maintenance technicians and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign maintenance work orders based on production requirements and operational priorities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated equipment issues.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and breakdown response to minimize production downtime.
- Ensure production equipment, machinery, and facility systems are maintained and operating effectively.
- Support equipment installations, upgrades, modifications, and commissioning of new machinery.
- Maintain facility systems including HVAC, refrigeration systems (where applicable), compressed air, plumbing, electrical systems, and building infrastructure.
Preventative Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed on time and accurately documented.
- Analyze equipment failures and identify root causes to prevent recurring issues.
- Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability, efficiency, and production uptime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records through CMMS or other maintenance tracking systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company food safety programs and regulatory requirements, including:
- HACCP
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- SQF/BRC requirements (where applicable)
- CFIA requirements
- Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Ensure maintenance activities do not negatively impact product safety or quality.
- Follow proper sanitation practices after maintenance work is completed.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party food safety audits.
- Ensure all maintenance employees follow proper hygiene, GMP, and food safety procedures.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, train, and develop maintenance employees across multiple locations.
- Provide guidance, feedback, and performance support to maintenance team members.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of maintenance personnel.
- Create a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate maintenance coverage to support production requirements across all shifts.
- Ensure effective communication between maintenance, production, quality, and management teams.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure proper use of PPE.
- Ensure all maintenance activities follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Conduct safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a strong safety culture within the maintenance department.
Inventory, Vendors & Budget Management
- Manage maintenance inventory, spare parts, tools, and supplies across multiple facilities.
- Ensure critical spare parts are available to minimize production downtime.
- Work with suppliers and contractors to coordinate repairs, services, and equipment requirements.
- Assist with maintenance budget planning and cost control initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs while improving equipment performance.
Multi-Site Travel Requirements
- Provide maintenance support and leadership across the company’s Etobicoke, Mississauga, and Markham facilities.
- Travel regularly between locations to support maintenance activities and operational requirements.
- Coordinate maintenance priorities and resources across multiple sites.
- Assist with equipment repairs, installations, preventative maintenance, audits, and improvement projects at all facilities.
- Support plant start-ups, shutdowns, and urgent maintenance requirements as needed.
A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and reliable transportation are required. The successful candidate must be comfortable travelling between locations on a regular basis and adjusting their schedule based on operational needs.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recommend process improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to improve overall plant performance.
Qualifications
Education
- College diploma or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Licensed Industrial Millwright (433A), Industrial Electrician (442A/309A), or equivalent trade certification is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience managing maintenance activities within a manufacturing facility.
- Experience with automated production equipment, packaging machinery, conveyors, mixers, ovens, and processing equipment.
- Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience working with CMMS systems.
- Experience supporting food safety audits and regulatory inspections.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment is an asset.
- Strong understanding of food manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SQF/BRC, and CFIA requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and employee management skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
