Role Definition:
The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on role in our wheel shop that brings advanced machining experience to support operations and the ongoing development of our workforce. The role focuses on maintaining equipment and developing processes that enhance our business.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and troubleshoot machining equipment, including CNC Lathes, Boring Mills, Truing Lathes, Wheel Presses
- Serve as technical lead on machines for new or specialized products, including locomotive components, by:
- Developing and optimizing machine setups, machining procedures, and assembly methods
- Supporting hands-on machining and assembly during trials or initial production
- Verifying process functionality and efficiency
- Assist in training and mentoring team members on machine processes and procedures
- Develop a strong understanding of machine capabilities, limitations, and rail-specific applications
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and productivity
- Assist in developing and updating work instructions, standard operating procedures, and training materials
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve machining or production issues
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with safety requirements
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Journeyperson Millwright certification or equivalent experience
- CNC machining experience in a heavy industrial or rail-related environment
- Experience machining large components and working to tight tolerances
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials
- Strong communication skills to effectively train, document, and guide others on technical processes
- Comfortable learning specialized rail and locomotive equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, process-focused approach
- Flexible to work various shifts as operational needs require
Compensation & Benefits:
- Rate of pay $34.86p/hr with overtime after 40 hrs worked.
- $800 retention bonus (paid after probation, subject to all applicable deductions)
