Sea Cider is seeking a full time Chef to lead our expanding food program, which encompasses menus for:
- Daily Tastings,
- Deli food “to go”,
- Group bookings, and
- On-site markets and other large public events
QUICK STATS
- Compensation: $55,000 to $65,000, depending on qualifications and experience, plus annual bonus. Compensation is designed to grow as our food program expands
- Work week: Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, except Peak Season when needed at times to support weekend team. Sea Cider has a lieu day policy and work life balance for staff is an important value in the company.
- Level of responsibility: leads our "small but mighty" Kitchen Team! Collaborates with management on expanding Sea Cider's food program.
THE JOB
Chef duties encompass food preparation, leadership and continuous improvement; this person will play a central role helping Sea Cider reach its culinary targets and grow the food program. The Chef is a member of Sea Cider’s Leadership Team and reports to management. Performance is assessed against food revenue and gross profit, food quality, employee feedback and customer reviews. Food safety, team safety and customer service are top priorities.
Focus areas include:
- Food Preparation: During the Quiet Season, the Chef frequently works as the sole team member in the Kitchen, taking on all roles (prep, plating, dishes, completing opening & closing checklists, etc). During the High Season, the Chef works alongside junior Associates who are part time or seasonal.
- HR Management: The Chef leads by example to build a positive team culture. The Chef leads the daily kitchen team huddle and briefs team members at the start of their shift, covers breaks, creates prep lists and assigns tasks, and leads troubleshooting. The Chef also leads the training, supervision and performance reviews of Kitchen Assistants, and assists management with scheduling and recruitment.
- Inventory Management: The Chef monitors stock, places supply orders and alerts management to inventory needs. The Chef is also accountable for keeping storage areas clean and organized, monitoring food quality, and recording waste.
- Financial Management: The Chef is expected to follow the food program budget and regularly review actuals with management, as well as help with forecasting.
- Continuous Improvement: The Chef updates SOPs and training materials, and implements cost saving measures where possible. This person collaborates with management and colleagues to improve all aspects of Sea Cider’s food program. The Chef also plays a pivotal role in growing Sea Cider’s food program over time.

ABOUT YOU
Required Qualifications:
- Culinary diploma or degree
- Food Safe certification
- Serving It Right certification
- First Aid certification
Experience:
- Minimum five years' experience in a culinary leadership role
- Proven experience developing training programs and coaching staff
- Proficiency with time-saving kitchen software for costing, inventory management and recipes
Personal Aptitude:
- Positive, hands-on leadership style
- A gift for mentoring junior team members
- Commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement
- Interest in learning about cider and collaborating with colleagues to expand the success of Sea Cider’s food program
Physical Requirements, etc:
- Able to work generally Monday to Friday, daytime hours (e.g. 9am to 5pm), swapping days off to work Saturday and Sunday if needed to assist weekend team
- Able to routinely lift up to 15 kg throughout the day
- Able to work standing and moving for extended periods in a small commercial kitchen
