Overview
Reporting to the Occupational Therapist, with the mission, values goals and objectives of the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, the Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy (OT/PT) Assistant provides support to the therapy team in delivering high-quality rehabilitation and restorative care to residents. Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist, the OT/PT Assistant assists with implementing therapy programs, preparing treatment areas, and supporting residents during therapeutic activities.
The role is essential in promoting mobility, independence, and overall well-being of residents while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. The OT/PT Assistant also contributes to equipment management, documentation, and communication with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
- Assists with preparing the residents for therapy, preparing equipment and assisting with specific treatments.
- Assists residents with physical movement: moving in bed, transfers, standing and walking and wheelchair activities.
- Assists residents with exercise routines, passive range of motion and active and restive exercises such as gait training and maintenance.
- Conducts group exercise classes under the direction of the therapist.
- Assists with some resident assessments under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Assists with endurance, muscles and skeletal strengthening exercises and treatments at the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Reports any changes in the resident’s condition to the therapist.
- Liaises with family, friends, volunteers and vendors in a professional manner.
- Assists with the recording of resident statistical data.
- Minor repairs for wheelchairs and cushions
- Treats residents with respect and dignity.
- Follows the policies, procedures and regulations of the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre.
- Participates in Therapeutic related educational opportunities as scheduled.
- Participates in Department Health and Safety initiatives and activities.
- Ensure personal physical fitness to manage work load.
- Orders supplies and performs office related duties: photocopying, laminating, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Occupational/Physical Therapist
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree from an accredited Occupational/Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Experience or familiarity with acute care settings is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical terminology to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and document patient care accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with residents and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Pay: $27.44-$34.06 per hour
