Last Door Recovery Society is a distinguished leader in fostering a community that inspires recovery. Our mission is to provide therapeutic environments where individuals and families dealing with addiction issues can develop the necessary skills to live free from dependency. We offer long-term bed-based and outpatient treatment for men aged 19 and over, utilizing a Social Model treatment modality. Position Overview:
Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, the Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting all facets of kitchen management at our facility. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from meal preparation, staff management, inventory and ordering, menu planning, and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness.
This part-time position (up to 29 hours a week) requires availability from Friday to Monday, with being flexible to accommodate a sick day or vacation day.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation and Menu Planning
· Assist in Meal Development: Support the Kitchen Manager in creating and executing nutritious, high-quality meals tailored to the needs of our recovery community.
· Menu Collaboration: Working closely with the kitchen manager to design weekly menus that meet the dietary requirements of our clients.
· Adaptability: Adapt menus as needed by substituting available ingredients and making effective use of what’s on hand.
Kitchen Operations
· Staff Management: Manage kitchen staff and oversee all kitchen operations, while engaging residents to support the kitchen daily/weekly duties.
· Training and Mentoring: Guide kitchen staff in mastering cooking techniques and maintaining high sanitation standards.
· Cleaning Equipment: Responsible for cleaning kitchen equipment i.e., descaling and deliming the dishwasher.
Inventory and Procurement
· Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory levels and order kitchen supplies while adhering to budget constraints.
· Supplier Relations: Establish and maintain good relationships with suppliers to ensure the quality of ingredients.
Safety and Compliance
· Health and Safety: Ensure all kitchen activities comply with health and safety regulations.
· Food Safety: Conduct regular checks on ingredients and prepared dishes to guarantee they meet quality standards.
Customer Satisfaction
· Quality Control: Perform regular quality assessments on ingredients and dishes to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.
Complaint Resolution: Address any food-related issues or complaints promptly and professionally.
Qualifications:
· Proven background as a Sous Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen environment.
· Culinary school diploma or equivalent hands-on experience in culinary arts.
· Strong command of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
· Exceptional leadership abilities with a knack for effective communication and team management.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
· A strong passion for culinary excellence and a keen interest in the nutritional needs related to recovery and health.
· Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
· Familiarity with dietary needs specific to addiction recovery is highly desirable.
· Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment.
