We are seeking a skilled and dependable Roofer to join our construction team, specializing in flat and low-slope roofing systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining built-up, modified bitumen, and single-ply membrane roofing systems on residential and commercial buildings, in accordance with RCABC (Roofing Contractors Association of BC) standards and RoofStar Guarantee requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of membrane roofing materials and application methods, as well as the ability to work safely at heights. The Roofer will collaborate with project managers and other tradespeople to ensure quality workmanship and timely project completion.
Responsibilities
- Install low-slope and flat roofing systems, including built-up roofing (BUR), SBS modified bitumen, and single-ply membranes (TPO, PVC, EPDM), to RCABC Roofing Practices Manual specifications.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn roofing components to restore waterproofing integrity and durability.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine project specifications and RCABC-approved details.
- Install insulation, cover boards, and vapour/air barriers as part of complete roof assemblies.
- Use torches, hot-mopping equipment, heat-welding tools, and adhesives safely and in line with manufacturer and RCABC requirements.
- Apply flashings, terminations, and sealants to prevent leaks and meet RoofStar Guarantee standards.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks, including integrity scans where required, to identify and correct issues before project completion.
- Perform heavy lifting of roofing materials and equipment as required.
- Maintain a clean work environment, including proper disposal of debris and materials.
- Follow safety protocols at all times, including the use of harnesses, guardrails, and other fall-protection equipment.
Skills
- Proficiency with the tools used in flat/low-slope roofing, such as torches, hot-air welders, seam rollers, cutting tools.
- Construction experience with a focus on flat, low-slope, or membrane roofing preferred.
- Familiarity with RCABC Roofing Practices Manual standards and RoofStar Guarantee requirements is an asset (training available for the right candidate).
- Basic carpentry skills for deck repairs, blocking, or curb work related to roofing projects.
- Ability to read blueprints accurately for precise installation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Knowledge of safety procedures for working at heights and around construction sites.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and teamwork orientation.
