Community Outreach & Marketing Representative
The Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club
$19.00/hour · 35 hrs/week · 8 Weeks · Start June or July 2026
This isn't a desk job.
You'll be out in the community — talking to families, telling the BGC story, and directly helping kids and youth in Fort McMurray access programs that change lives. One day a week you're in the office building campaigns and content. The rest of the week you're in neighbourhoods, at doors, making real connections.
If you're someone who likes to talk, loves a challenge, and wants a summer job that actually means something — this is it.
What You'll Be Doing
Most of your week — Community Outreach
- Go door-to-door across Fort McMurray representing BGC and its programs
- Have genuine conversations with families about childcare, youth programs, and the new BGC daycare expansion coming to the community
- Hand out materials, gather feedback, sign families up, and make an impact you can actually see
- Track your results and bring your wins back to the team every Monday
One day a week — In the Office
- Create social media content, posters, and digital campaigns
- Plan your outreach routes and messaging for the week ahead
- Update contact lists, summarize community feedback, and support the marketing team
- Debrief with your supervisor and set goals for the week
When the Community Gathers — Event Support
- Represent BGC at community events and information sessions
- Support fundraising activities and program promotions
Your Schedule
Monday | 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM | Office Tuesday | 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Community Wednesday | 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Community Thursday | 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Community Friday | Off Saturday | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Community Sunday | 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Community
Evenings and weekends are intentional — that's when families are home and conversations happen.
What You'll Walk Away With
This role builds skills that employers in marketing, sales, nonprofit, and communications actively look for:
- Real door-to-door sales and community engagement experience
- Digital content creation and social media management
- Campaign development and nonprofit marketing
- Public speaking and persuasive communication
- Data collection and community research
More importantly — you'll spend your summer doing work that directly supports kids and families in your community.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need a marketing degree. You need to be:
- A talker. You're comfortable striking up conversations with strangers and you don't take a closed door personally
- Self-motivated. You can work independently in the field without someone looking over your shoulder
- Reliable. You show up, you follow through, and you represent BGC with professionalism
- Creative. You have an eye for content and enjoy putting together materials that look good and say something
- Community-minded. You care about Fort McMurray and the people in it
Bonus points if you have:
- Any door-to-door, canvassing, retail, or customer-facing experience
- Familiarity with Canva, social media management, or survey tools
- Experience or interest in working with kids, youth, or families
Eligibility: This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be 18 to 30 years of age at the start of employment.
