Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
- Working towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
- Valid welding certification in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
- Hold a journeyman ticket/Red Seal ticket or CWB ticket(s).
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Carpentry skills are a bonus.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Fabricate structural steel, ornamental work, and custom pieces according to client specifications, blueprints, and in-house shop drawings.
- Measure and install custom pieces with precision onsite.
- Follow drawing instructions and processes accurately.
- Work under the supervision of the shop foreman, as part of a team, and independently in a busy environment.
- Operate power tools/grinders safely in accordance with safe work practices and procedures.
- Prepare completed orders for shipment.
- Operate a truck and trailer, rigging equipment, overhead crane, skid steer, and have own tools.
- Demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude, precision, and attention to detail.
- Uphold a commitment to a high degree of workmanship and integrity.
- Change welding machine settings based on job specifications and material thicknesses.
- QC own workpieces visually, by touch, or using measuring tools to ensure they meet company standards and deadlines.
- Adhere to company standards, procedures, and policies.
- Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment and CNC Plasma table.
- Operate metal forming machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening and bending machines.
- Conduct technical inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
- Monitor parts usage, report material/consumable inventory issues, and ensure task and project accuracy.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques.
- Previous industrial construction experience is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Travel to off-site locations may be required.
- Adherence to safety policies (wearing protective equipment).
- Exposure to hazards associated with the trade.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, occasionally at heights.
- Exposure to construction sites.
