Position Summary
The Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Specialist will support the development and implementation of Central Smith Creamery's environmental compliance and sustainability programs. This role will focus on creating and implementing the company's Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting environmental initiatives, and improving sustainability practices across the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with multiple departments to develop processes, maintain compliance documentation, and support continuous environmental improvement within a food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating, implementing, and organizing the Environmental Management System (EMS), including policies, procedures, records, and compliance documentation.
- Support environmental site assessments by collecting, organizing, and analyzing site and environmental data.
- Develop and maintain waste management procedures and support employee training on proper waste management practices.
- Track and maintain inventories of recyclable, solid, hazardous, and universal waste.
- Review and organize waste manifests, shipping documents, and disposal records to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor compliance requirements for air emissions, stormwater, no exposure, wastewater, and other environmental permits.
- Maintain environmental monitoring records and compliance documentation.
- Support noise boundary testing activities and maintain associated records.
- Collect, analyze, and report on energy consumption data, including electricity, natural gas, and water usage.
- Assist with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions tracking, sustainability reporting, and other environmental performance metrics.
- Assist with PCB surveys, inspections, inventory management, and compliance documentation.
- Participate in environmental inspections, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support environmental reporting, data analysis, and regulatory submissions as required.
- Research environmental best practices and recommend opportunities to improve sustainability, resource efficiency, and environmental performance.
- Work with internal teams to ensure environmental procedures are understood and consistently followed.
- Support special environmental projects and other duties related to environmental compliance and sustainability as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completed or working toward a degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in environmental compliance, manufacturing, or sustainability is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements is an asset.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and data management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to take initiative, influence positive change, and drive projects to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating effectively across departments.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a continuous improvement mindset.
