Job Summary
The Ojibway Mine has an exciting opportunity available for a Project Engineer. The successful candidate will serve as a technical expert and oversee contractors in support of underground mining operations and surface milling operations. This position is responsible for performing engineering and cost estimating for capital appropriation requests to maintain plant operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe work environment by demonstrating leadership in health, safety, and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to all company policies, procedures, and safe work practices by employees and contractors.
- Lead project risk assessments and Management of Change (MOC) activities to identify, mitigate, and communicate project-related risks throughout planning and execution.
- Plan, manage, and execute capital and sustaining engineering projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and meet operational objectives.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, capital budgets, and monthly spending forecasts while maintaining accurate project cost control and financial reporting.
- Manage project procurement, contractor coordination, purchase requisitions, invoicing, progress payments, and project documentation to ensure timely execution and financial accountability.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party engineering inspections of critical mine infrastructure, ensuring inspection findings are addressed and corrective actions are prioritized and completed.
- Provide engineering support to the Production and Maintenance departments by improving equipment reliability, infrastructure integrity, operational efficiency, and long-term asset performance.
- Lead technical investigations, troubleshooting, and engineering support for major equipment failures, shutdowns, infrastructure repairs, and commissioning activities.
- Conduct engineering studies, feasibility assessments, cost estimates, and technical evaluations for mine development, infrastructure improvements, and capital investment opportunities.
- Evaluate production and maintenance processes and implement engineering solutions that improve safety, productivity, reliability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Manage engineering design, construction, installation, contractor performance, commissioning, and project closeout while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
- Collaborate with vendors, consultants, and contractors to evaluate equipment, engineering services, and technical solutions, providing recommendations for capital purchases and infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain complete and accurate engineering drawings, technical records, project documentation, asset information, and project financial records.
- Support compliance with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and Windsor Salt policies while identifying and mitigating engineering compliance risks.
- Provide technical leadership, communicate project status, budgets, schedules, and risks to management, and support cross-functional teams in achieving departmental and site objectives.
- Apply the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement while coordinating project activities and contractor work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mining, mechanical, chemical, or electrical.
- Proven ability to apply engineering principles to concrete problems and opportunities.
- Ability to plan and carry out project assignments.
- Three to five years of manufacturing supervisory experience.
- SAP and AutoCAD experience.
- A self-starter who is capable of managing and performing multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a problem-solving team.
- Recognize and respect diverse perspectives expressed by team members, peers, or superiors.
- Above-average written and oral communication skills.
- Strong technical skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
Preferred
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation.
- Structural Engineering project management experience is considered a strong asset.
The expected annual compensation for this position is $93,330 - $126,270. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, or location.
