PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position of Assembly Machine Operator is to oversee the functioning of automated assembly line or machining equipment and to ensure it is running properly. The position will visually inspect finished product and troubleshoot minor problems with the Assembly Operator Team Lead.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The position ensures that test preparation and inspection/packing activities meet internal and customer requirements. The role includes operating cutting equipment to prepare samples, identifying visible defects in parts and pack the parts in the proper package.
The position is responsible for completing assigned tasks independently and does not coordinate the work of others. Decisions may impact product quality and testing results.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma.
Knowledge and Skills: The incumbent must be able to read, understand instructions and follow them exactly, as well as able to work independently without close supervision. The incumbent needs organizational skills to manage priorities, must pay attention to details, basic understanding of manufacturing or quality processes, ability to operate or learn equipment such as plasma saw, table saw, and cutters etc, and ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
Communication Skills: Basic oral and written communication skills are required in order to complete necessary paperwork, and able to follow specific instructions.
Nature and Length of Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset but is not mandatory for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist technicians in preparing samples for weld testing
- Operate plasma cutters, band saws, and reciprocating saws to cut assembly components and test samples.
- Accurately measure, mark, and cut materials according to specifications and engineering drawings
- Prepare coupons for metallurgical examination, including sectioning, polishing to the required finish, and acid etching to reveal microstructure.
- Perform routine inspections of tools and machinery.
- Perform visual and gauge inspections, as well as packing and sorting of parts; part marking may be required
- Identify and report defects or non-conformities
- Follow QM instructions and approved documentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Complete required documentation and records accurately
- Follow directions and tasks assigned by QM supervision or lead hand
- Comply with all company HR policies and procedures
- Work safely at all times, following safety rules and wearing required PPE
- Handle acids and chemicals safely during etching processes in accordance with safety guidelines
- Report any unsafe conditions, practices, or work-related injuries immediately
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director
