Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Auto Body Painter / Prep Technician to join our collision repair team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces, mixing and matching paint, and applying high-quality finishes to repaired vehicles. This role plays a critical part in ensuring vehicles are restored to pre-accident condition while meeting OEM standards and exceeding customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicles for paint by sanding, masking, cleaning, and priming surfaces.
- Mix, match, and blend paint colours to ensure an accurate factory finish.
- Apply base coats, clear coats, and other refinishing materials using spray equipment.
- Perform paint blending and refinishing repairs on repaired vehicle panels.
- Inspect painted surfaces for imperfections and perform touch-ups, polishing, and final finishing as required.
- Operate and maintain spray guns, paint booths, mixing systems, and related refinishing equipment.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards, OEM procedures, and customer expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and environmental regulations regarding paint materials, VOC compliance, and waste disposal.
- Collaborate with estimators, body technicians, and management to maintain efficient production flow.
- Track paint and material usage while minimizing waste and controlling costs.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry refinishing techniques and technologies.
- Assist with vehicle preparation and other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as an Auto Body Painter in a collision repair environment.
- Strong knowledge of automotive refinishing procedures, paint systems, and colour matching techniques.
- Experience working with both waterborne and solvent-based paint systems.
- Proficiency in surface preparation, blending, refinishing, and polishing.
- Familiarity with OEM repair procedures and collision industry standards.
- Ability to operate spray guns, paint booths, and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Completion of an automotive refinishing apprenticeship or certification is considered an asset.
Pay: $80,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
