Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties: An advanced laboratory course emphasizing the principles of chemical research, including synthesis, analysis, characterization, and application of organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds. Exposes students to an array of advanced characterization techniques used in the modern chemical research laboratory.
Required Qualifications : Graduate level education (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Chemistry with a thorough understanding of the aforementioned topics. Candidates must demonstrate a strong foundation in core chemistry concepts and an ability to effectively communicate chemistry topics to undergraduate chemistry students. Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred, particularly in laboratory courses of similar scope and size. Demonstrated ability to perform the various duties of the appointment (e.g. administrative work, corresponding with students, administering tests/exams, etc.) is required. Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management skills are required. Candidates must demonstrate experience coordinating multiple laboratory sections, managing complex schedules, maintaining accurate student and assessment records, and communicating effectively with students, teaching assistants, and instructional staff. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage the administrative and operational aspects of a complex undergraduate laboratory course while fostering an effective learning environment for chemistry students.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with the CHEM 3LA3 course and lab material.
*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
