DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) on the OC7 Medical Unit is required to use the nursing process in providing patient care according to the standards and current scope of practice as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the policies of Lakeridge Health Corporation; to participate as a member of the Health Care Team by conducting assessments, monitoring patients' medical status, supporting other team members in decision making, ensuring accuracy in clinical documentation of patient care needs and to participate in quality improvement initiatives relevant to the unit and organization as required. As an individual practitioner, the RPN will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice and other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
- Coronary Care I course (or equivalent) required OR must enroll in the next available Lakeridge Health Telemetry course and successfully complete upon hire;
- Current BCLS;
- Current Medication Certificate which meets the standards practice established by the CNO;
- Recent experience in Acute Medicine and/ or similar environment;
- Updated Health/Patient Assessment courses preferred;
- Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management, and teaching skills;
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships in a family centred environment;
- Demonstrated ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
- Must have a satisfactory performance record;
- Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; and
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area.
