Summary
We are seeking a Railcar Inspection Specialist to join our team in Canada. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining the safety and integrity of railway equipment, supporting our company's commitment to excellence and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other applications.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and Transport Canada
- Inspect car components for compliance with FRA, Association of American Railroads (AAR), and Transport Canada Regulations.
- Identify or analyze defective components and indicate the necessary corrective action.
- Inspect the repair of the securement of lading in open top or flat cars for compliance with AAR rules and measure high/wide loads to ensure railway line clearance.
- Inspect and salvage parts from dismantled and/or scrapped cars as required.
- Inspect gaskets, air hose, train line, bulkhead and other interior load restraining equipment, steel sections such as side sheets, cross bearers, cross ties and under framing.
- Ensures all estimates are completed in accordance with AAR compliance and the Xpert Rail Consulting Quality Assurance Program.
- When inspecting and estimating rail cars, ensure Xpert Rail Consulting standards, specifications, and instruction are maintained.
- Operate various vehicles to the job site.
- Travel to job sites will be required, and occasional overnight stays to complete inspections.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills -- provide clear instructions/directions
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Proficient and adequate typing skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
- Valid Driver's License and clean abstract
- Mechanical aptitude
- Welding or Mechanical work experience/training preferred
- High School diploma/GED· Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Quality Assurance background or experience
- Material and parts procurement experience
- Railcar repair experience
- High aptitude for analytical thinking, problem solving and rapid learningAbility to quickly understand complex concepts, adapt to new situations and exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting to 25 pounds occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
- Walking long distances over uneven terrain.
- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity for inspection purposes.
- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.
Employment Conditions

- Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses.
- Work hours may include a nonstandard work week and overtime.
- Complete annual/periodic training and pass safety rules examination.
- Must pass all required assessments.
- Must pass a background screening.
Environmental Conditions
Work outside in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, and on occasion at elevated heights.
Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
