Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients with professionalism and compassion, ensuring accurate specimen handling, and maintaining patient comfort throughout the procedure. This role is essential in supporting diagnostic processes and delivering high-quality patient care in a clinical setting. Prior hospital or laboratory experience is preferred, along with strong knowledge of medical terminology and patient care practices.
Duties
- Collect blood samples from patients using proper phlebotomy techniques while ensuring patient safety and comfort
- Verify patient identity and explain procedures to alleviate anxiety
- Label specimens accurately and prepare them for laboratory analysis
- Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and work area in compliance with health standards
- Assist with patient registration and documentation as needed
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and team members regarding specimen collection and handling
- Maintain accurate records of collected specimens and procedures performed
Skills
- Proven experience in hospital or laboratory settings, demonstrating proficiency in phlebotomy
- Strong understanding of medical terminology relevant to laboratory procedures and patient care
- Excellent patient care skills, including empathy, communication, and the ability to put patients at ease during blood collection
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to blood collection and specimen handling
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Good organizational skills for managing multiple specimens and documentation accurately
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team in a fast-paced environment
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
Education:
- Secondary School (required)
Experience:
- Phlebotomy: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Phlebotomist certificate (preferred)
