Purchasing Assistant (Contract) – Supply Chain Support | Food Manufacturing
A well-established Canadian food manufacturing organization is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to join their Supply Chain team on a 3-month contract (with potential extension up to 6 months). This is a fast-paced, onsite role supporting senior buyers in a high-volume production environment.

Role Overview
The Purchasing Assistant will provide day-to-day support to two Senior Buyers, focusing on operational purchasing activities, supplier coordination, and inventory management within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
This is a hands-on role where accuracy, urgency, and strong communication are essential to keep production and supply chain operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders (POs) based on requirements
- Verify accuracy of PO details including pricing, quantities, and delivery terms
- Maintain and update vendor profiles and procurement records in D365
- Support inventory monitoring and flag shortages or discrepancies
- Investigate and resolve PO and shipment discrepancies with suppliers
- Coordinate with vendors regarding pricing, delivery schedules, and issues
- Assist with basic sourcing requests for materials and supplies
- Support buyers with operational purchasing needs and urgent requests
- Help ensure timely availability of materials for production and launches
- Maintain strong cross-functional communication with supply chain, production, and inventory teams
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 1–2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain support
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is strongly preferred / highly important
- Background in food manufacturing or general manufacturing preferred
- Strong attention to detail with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong communication and supplier coordination skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems

Work Environment & Schedule

Contract Details
- 3-month contract with potential extension up to 6 months
- Immediate start preferred
- Open work permit candidates may be considered (valid work authorization required beyond contract term)
- Compensation
- $23–$25/hour (depending on experience)
