About the Role
We are looking for a Junior Metallurgist to support ongoing R&D and pilot-scale development of manganese recovery processes, including chloride-based leaching and purification systems.
This role is ideal for a recent graduate who wants hands-on experience in process development, extractive metallurgy, and scale-up within a fast-moving startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support laboratory and pilot-scale test work, including leaching, precipitation, and solid-liquid separation
- Assist in development and optimization of chloride-based hydrometallurgical processes
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental and process data
- Contribute to process flow diagrams (PFDs) and mass balance calculations
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, and internal documentation
- Work closely with senior team members on process scale-up and pilot plant design
- Ensure safe laboratory practices and maintain organized workspaces
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Engineering from a Canadian university (recent graduate preferred)
- Strong interest in hydrometallurgy, extractive metallurgy, or chemical process development
- Solid understanding of mass balances, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics
- Comfortable working in a hands-on lab or pilot environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Internship or co-op experience in mining, metallurgy, or chemical processing
- Exposure to leaching systems, solvent extraction, or crystallization
- Familiarity with Excel, Python, or process simulation tools
- Experience working with analytical methods (ICP, XRF, etc.)
- Russian language proficiency is an asset, particularly for effective collaboration with senior technical team members

- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Preference may be given to candidates eligible for youth employment or innovation support programs
