About the role
Community Apothecary is an independent, closed-door pharmacy — no retail counter, no walk-in traffic. We're hiring a part-time LPN for a Saturday and Sunday line, providing medication administration, patient engagement, and overdose response for people living in supported housing in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, many of whom live with mental health and substance use challenges.
This is real community nursing. You'll see the same clients week after week, and that continuity matters — for many of them, the relationship with their nurse is what keeps them engaged in care at all. It can be demanding, and it can be genuinely rewarding.
You'd work within a multi-disciplinary model alongside nurses, pharmacists, social workers, family physicians, psychiatrists, mental health workers, and community mental health teams.
Schedule
Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. A permanent weekend line — same days, same hours, every week. Weekday shifts are also available.
We're also open to casual arrangements, or to someone who can only cover one weekend day.
Where you'll work
Across ten supported-housing buildings operated by PHS Community Services Society. Most are clustered in the Downtown Eastside within a few blocks of each other; three are in the Olympic Village area. Travel between sites during your shift is on paid time. You would not be working out of our Burnaby pharmacy.
Compensation and benefits
- $32.00–$36.00/hour depending on relevant experience, paid for a full 8 hours per shift

- 6% vacation pay
- 5 paid sick days per year
- 1.5× your rate for any statutory holiday you work

What you'll do
- Administer medications according to prescriber orders and established care plans
- Complete medication room deliveries within the buildings
- Recognize and respond to overdose
- Engage patients using a harm reduction approach
- Document administration accurately and maintain confidential records
- Communicate changes in client status to the prescriber and care team
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support consistent, comprehensive care
What we're looking for
- Current practicing registrant in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- A patient, non-judgmental approach — you meet people where they are and build trust with clients who may have had difficult experiences with the health care system
- Comfortable working within a harm reduction framework
- Experience or interest in mental health and/or substance use is an asset
- Strong communication skills
- Able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Working here
Relaxed dress code — most of the team works in jeans and a t-shirt. Small, collaborative team with team socials a few times a year.
Safety on site
Mental health workers staff the front desk of every building 24/7 and conduct wellness checks. All buildings are camera monitored. During room deliveries you carry a radio and can reach a mental health worker at any time. Naloxone and PPE are provided.
