The Roads Program has been growing for over 30 years into an organization that provides a variety of successful support to over forty adults with varying developmental delays. The most important work done at ROADS is to help individuals learn to be the most independent people they can be.
Support is provided to individuals to make positive choices, live their best lives as well as achieve their desired goals. The ROADS program represents Resources, Opportunities, Abilities, Discoveries, and Supports individuals as they map out their own directions. The program assists individuals to learn the transit system and learn skills they may need to be more fully participating community members.
The program also provides an opportunity for individuals to achieve balance in their lives by offering exploration of life skills, problem solving skills, personal growth, recreational activities, community services and events.
About the Role:

Assist participants with social, recreational, emotional, and life skills growth.

Facilitate activities tailored to participants' interests and needs.

Encourage the highest degree of independence and life quality.

Uphold a respectful and understanding environment.
Key Tasks:
-
Support participants in conveying needs & choices.
-
Attend to cleaning & maintenance tasks.
-
Document and maintain pertinent records.
-
Ensure safe transportation for participants.

Occasional personal care tasks (feeding, changing, medication).

Assist with meal preparation

Provide support and assistance to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities

Help individuals with mobility needs, including heavy lifting and transferring

Administer medications as directed by healthcare professionals

Requirements:

Previous experience as a support worker or in a similar role is preferred

Knowledge of basic nursing principles and practices is a plus

Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical tasks as required

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compassionate and patient demeanor

Ability to follow instructions and work independently

Valid driver's license & first aid certification.
The program runs from 8:30am to 2:30 pm, Monday - Friday. We do not run the program on weekends or Canadian stat holidays.
This position requires on-call staff to be available to fill in for full time employees, sometimes at the last minute and replacing our full-time staff vacations and last minute sick days. Flexibility a must for this position to be successful for all parties.
