Job Description: Early Childhood Educator /Otherwise Approved
Reports to: Supervisor
Primary Purpose:
The ECE or otherwise approved ECE is responsible for developing and implementing an Ontario Early Learning Framework based program for an assigned classroom. The creative curriculum must meet the social, emotional, communication, language and literacy, cognitive and physical needs of both the individual child and the classroom.
Qualifications:
Must be a fully qualified Early Childhood Educator
- Must be a registered Early Childhood Educator
- Have a current first aid/CPR certificate
- Health Assessment signed by doctor
- Criminal Record Check
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner
- Must be sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program curriculum to meet those individual needs
- Must be motivated to learn and grow in an educational environment and be willing to continually increase knowledge in the field of ECE
- Must be able to work in a team environment, be willing to share ideas, be open to other’s ideas, be flexible and willing to compromise
Special Requirements and Physical Demands:
- Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed to lift children up to 45 lbs including bending, stooping, stretching , squatting, pushing and pulling, sitting and walking
- Noise level can be moderate to loud
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- To be familiar with the policies and procedures manual and adhere to all licensing requirements
- Greets each child in a warm and friendly manner
- Is knowledgeable about each child’s medical and developmental histories
- Interacts with the children and encourages their involvement in activities
- Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, disinfected and appealing which allows the child to grow and explore
- Plans, prepares and implements daily activities as they relate to the curriculum and child’s interests
- Responsible for the health, welfare and safety of the children
- To administer and record medication according to parents written instruction
- To provide and arrange for first aid in case of emergencies
- Provides overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time
- Oversees all mealtime/snack time activities and related record keeping
- Maintains daily attendance records
- Maintains ongoing Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ’S) for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills
- Keeps a portfolio of each child’s progress, including photographs, samples of their artwork, writing etc
- Maintains good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes or verbally
- Supervises, trains and utilizes assistant teachers, students and volunteers skills and abilities
- Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere
- Ensures confidentiality of privileged information
- Must work the days and hours to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, be punctual and timely in meeting all performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines
- Performs additional program duties as assigned by the supervisor according to agency needs
- Fill out ALL daily paperwork RE: playground checks, health checks, fridge temps and log books
Periodic Duties:
- Attends all staff meetings. Allowed to miss 3 per year
- Attends all team planning meetings and curriculum meetings scheduled by the supervisor
- Prepares and conducts one Parent/Teacher conference usually in the month of May. Also responsible for holding or initiating parent conference/ meetings other than the one mentioned above as necessary
- Attends workshops, conferences and any in-service training as approved and instructed by the supervisor
- Maintains cleanliness in the staff room

Salary: $21.35-24.09 per hour
