Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) to work collaboratively with our nursing team to provide community-based home care services in North Vancouver and West Vancouver on a subcontractor basis. This mobile position is ideal for an MLA looking for flexible, independent work while contributing to a developing and dynamic health care business.
The MLA will provide skilled sample collection services ensuring professional, reliable, and personalized care tailored to each client’s needs. The ideal candidate is reliable, skilled, detail-oriented, and committed to promoting patient comfort and safety while upholding the highest standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and sample collections
- Process and transport specimen samples
- Maintain sample integrity and quality assurance
- Respond appropriately to adverse patient reactions during specimen collection
- Collaborate with the healthcare team
- Perform patient vital signs under the delegation of a licensed nurse
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control procedures
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate clinical documentation
Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques
- Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection prevention, and quality assurance principles.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and electronic medical records
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including children and elderly patients
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Ability to manage patient load efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and quality assurance
Qualifications & Requirements
- Successful completion of a BCSLS-approved MLA program
- Minimum 1-3 years of laboratory work experience
- Up to date immunizations
- Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle and insurance (required)
- Criminal Record Check
- English proficiency (oral and written)
- Basic computer skills (experience with Jane App considered an asset)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting
- Reliable and able to manage time effectively
- Previous community or home health experience considered an asset
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, and move throughout the workday
- Manual dexterity required for specimen collection
- Ability to lift, bend, pull, and carry supplies and equipment as required
