Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North is looking for a dependable, energetic, and community-minded ReStore Driver / Swamper to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, staying active, meeting people, and helping support a great cause in the community.
The ReStore Driver / Swamper plays an important role in the success of our ReStores by supporting donation pickups, deliveries, donor relationships, truck operations, and day-to-day store support. As a representative of Habitat VIN, this position helps create positive donor experiences while ensuring donations are collected safely, professionally, and efficiently.
What You’ll Do
- Pick up donated items from residential, corporate, and community donors
- Support the safe and efficient operation of the ReStore truck
- Build and maintain positive relationships with donors and community partners
- Assess donated items for quality, condition, and resale suitability
- Complete route planning, pickup coordination, and required reporting
- Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report maintenance concerns
- Help train and support volunteers and team members when needed
- Assist with other ReStore duties when truck operations are light
What We’re Looking For
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Clean driver’s abstract and ability to maintain insurability
- 2 to 3 years of experience operating a box truck for pickups and deliveries
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically able to lift, carry, push, and pull large items
- Comfortable using Google Maps, email, and basic computer programs
- Knowledge of the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and Vancouver Island area
- Criminal Record Check required
Assets
- Forklift certification
- First Aid certification
- Hino or HPR truck experience
- Experience in logistics, retail, moving, warehouse operations, or nonprofit environments
- Experience building relationships with businesses or corporate donors
Working Conditions
This is a physically active role that involves lifting, loading, unloading, driving, and working in a variety of environments including donor homes, businesses, warehouses, and outdoor settings. The successful candidate must be comfortable with repetitive movement, changing weather, and a fast-paced work environment.
