Who we are looking for:
Reporting to the VP Material Supply, the Sr. Buyer will interface heavily with external suppliers, internal manufacturing, engineering, and sales team members to improve inventory performance, cost, delivery, quality, and lead time.
The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing and a working knowledge Inventory Control and Logistics/Freight. The incumbent analyzes production requirements and orders material to ensure an uninterrupted flow of goods and services sufficient to support the master production schedule. The candidate will be responsible for the most vital raw materials and will have a strong working knowledge of MRP concepts, Inventory Control, and Logistics/Freight. This position will also identify and develop new sources of supply and new/alternative materials in support of the business unit’s production team and its cost reduction efforts. The Sr. Buyer will participate in the promotion and facilitation of events supporting the entire value chain. This position is a highly visible role that will focus on key cross functional processes and system improvements allowing us to accelerate the standardization, stability, and simplification in the manufacturing supply chain.
What you’ll do:
- Create purchase orders and facilitate all changes and expedites; reconcile pending invoices and take ownership to maintain proper order processing, inclusive of DoA, GL accuracy, and data entry.
- Develop and monitor standard costs for raw materials to perform cost and supply analysis to optimize purchasing plan as required.
- Develop new domestic and international sources as needed and pro-actively identify potential future sources to be evaluated and qualified, negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing.
- Problem-solve which includes root cause analysis and preventive action implementation.
- Maintain clear lines of communication between procurement and stakeholders to include Manufacturing operations, Quality, Logistics, Finance, and to obtain the best pricings, quality, service, and delivery.
- Manage Ad hoc projects and reports to support the development and implementation of MRP systems; manage the databases associated with the procurement modules.
- Interface regularly with the finished goods inventory planning teams ensuring material supply consistency with finished goods stocking requirements while optimizing inventory days on hand.
- Coordinate with operations and value stream managers to ensure continuous material flow to operations with changing demand profiles and schedule changes, while ensuring control of stocking levels
- Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure efficient import processes and costs.
- Ensure adherence to international trade regulations, including customs compliance, documentation, and country-specific laws.
- Stay updated on currency exchange rates, changes in trade agreements, tariffs, and international sourcing policies for risk mitigation to cost and service.
- Develop purchasing strategies to mitigate risk within current supply chain.
- Drive improvements in top spend categories to support supply chain productivity goals.
What you’ll bring:
- BS in Business discipline and 7+ years of experience in Purchasing; Advanced degree preferred.
- Procurement/Supply Chain negotiating experience in an industrial environment.
- Must be proficient with MS OS and general purchasing software solutions. Experience with JDE/Oracle preferred.
- Experience with inventory control programs.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in time and project management.
- Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor to support and drive company values and initiatives
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Complete your Atkore Immersion program.
- Have developed relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
- Be highly engaged and aligned with Planning, Scheduling and Operations and support groups.
- Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.
Within 6 months, you’ll:
- Understand the business well enough to own and drive operational activities with the assistance of internal support.
- Maintain and be accountable for KPI reporting while actively participating in Lean Daily Management activities.
- Be actively developing opportunities to improve the current supply chain.
Within 12 months, you’ll:
- Design and execute purchasing strategies to achieve operational objectives.
- Develop and drive best practices and demonstrate an ability to get results through influencing others.
- Be responsible for suggesting changes to senior management, using analytics to support your recommendations, and actively participate in the implementation of approved changes.
- Be the expert in your commodities.
- Develops new domestic and global supply sources as needed, and pro-actively identifies potential future sources to be evaluated and qualified.
- Evaluate supply chain abilities to support ad-hoc or un-forecasted demand changes.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $81,200 - $111,650. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
