We are looking to fill a PART-TIME possibly Full-Time position (30-40 hours per week) Kennel Attendant Position. This is a very dynamic position and requires a very mature, attentive and responsible individual with the ability to multi-task. Responsibilities would include overseeing daily kennel operations, customer relations, ensuring animal care & wellbeing, managing staff and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The right candidate would have a passion for the animal care field and a friendly service-minded attitude. Prior experience as a kennel assistant is not required as we are willing to train the right candidate but experience and comfortableness around animals is a must. Managerial experience is an asset. The right candidate would have strong communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and be proactive while prioritizing tasks for completion. Must be available mornings, daytime, evenings and weekends (weekend work is required). Our shifts are 7:00/7:30am-12:30pm and 3:30pm-8:00pm daily. You may only be scheduled to work a morning or evening shift in a day or a possible double shift once a week.
Details of the Job:
- Animal handling – confidence while physically handling animals is critical. A major part of the role is patiently and securely working with animals in a variety of environments while performing essential tasks such as feeding, exercising, socializing.
- Cleaning and sanitation – excellent cleaning skills are a must. (Maintain a neat and organized work environment at the front desk, clean runs, scoop poop, sanitize play areas, sanitize dishes)
- Customer service – Customer service is essential for this position. Our goal is to serve the individual needs of our customers with a kind and friendly disposition.
- Physical fitness – working at a kennel has certain physical requirements, such as the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. You would typically be on your feet for four to six to hours at a time and may have to lift larger breeds of animals. Minimal sitting.
- Communication skills – listening to and communicating with a wide range of people as well as animals (hearing sounds or anything out of the ordinary) is an essential skill that attendants must use with both clients and animals, answer phones, and quickly respond to customer inquiries and requests.
- Observation skills – since the animal care attendant helps monitor animal care, kennel attendants must be able to notice small changes in animals’ behaviour and report any unusual actions. Kennel assistants pay particular attention to animals that are new or may need extra attention to adjust to their new environment.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a High School Diploma.
- Valid Driver's License
- Pet First Aid or Handling Course is an asset but not required.
